PROJECT SUMMARY 2
Due to a national crisis, Houston is receiving one million refugees from Lebanon in the
near future. To carry out the relocation process, consideration involving a few factors included
the carrying capacity of the location, amount of space needed for the refugees, amounts of water
usage, and how refugees will adapt to the new setting. After reviewing these factors, as city
planners, the settlement we chose to resettle the refugees is the Lake Houston Wilderness Park.
Reasoning for moving the refugees to Lake Houston include its offers of the necessary
amount of water and sufficient amount of land to hold these people. Among one million refugees,
the population would need a total of 367 acres; Lake Houston poses an inhabitable 4,786.6 acres
of parkland. Although much of the location is still wooded, there is still enough cleared land to
hold the 250,000 tents needed with a capacity of four people per tent. This location can
successfully hold the one million people with its many campsites and recreational areas.
Consequently, the relocation setting of Lake Houston will be most efficient for refugees because
of the availability in land, which will not interfere with Houston residents.
After careful calculation, the amount of water needed for all one million refugees is about
seventy-two hundred million liters. The withdrawal of 720 million liters of water is necessary for
refugee consumption. We will install pipes along the stream throughout our campsite and
construction vehicles in order to transport materials to build the pipeline. The assignment of two
water filters is enough because our location has its own natural water filtration system along the
banks of the lake and at the bottom of the streams. By choosing the Lake of Houston Wilderness
Park, abundant water within the location is available and allows the retrieving of more water if
needed.
Total water consumption may vary among individuals, although the amount of water
needed per person, per day is two liters knowing this amount, the number per person, per year is

2 million liters. This quantity includes drinking, bathing, and other recreational uses therefore
making the total amount of water that is consumed by the refugees per day around two million
liters per day. The removal of such abundant amounts of water from the lake may cause
environmental effects including disruption of the lake water food chain, oxygen levels in the
water decreasing, and loss of environmental sustainability. After consideration of these numbers
and sustainability of our ecosystem, Lake Houston Wilderness Park further proves to be most
efficient because of its water capacity and environmental regulation.
Furthermore, we are resettling our refugees to Lake Houston Wilderness Park due to the
necessary factors needed in a relocation setting. Features such as enough space to hold the
refugees and sufficient amount of water necessary for the refugees make it a sufficient site. This
resolves problems from the other three locations because our location lacks endangered species
in it and they were National Forest and Estuaries. Feasibly, Houston can support a million
refugees because it has the necessary food, water supply and land area.
