Course Objectives
Introduce the importance of Highways and Transportation Engineering
Learn about Urban Transportation Planning
Improve the efficient use of available resources in Traffic Engineering
(driver, vehicle, and general traffic characteristics).
Comprehend the Highway Capacity, Level of Service and Geometric
Design.
Develop the required skills in Earthwork Operations, Highway Drainage
and Subgrade Structure.
It is expected that this course will bring into focus, Structural Analysis
and Design of both, Rigid and Flexible Pavements and the essential
elements of the procedures used in Economic Analysis and evaluation of
Transportation Systems.

Follow the 10 simple steps

Get a textbook.
Print the lectures notes from Blackboard, and bring them to the class.
Before coming to the lecture, please read the scheduled topics and lecture
notes (10 minutes).
Bring the textbook and lecture notes to the class (heavy! but useful). Attend
and listen carefully to the lecture.
Study the material on the same day when you go home.
Carefully solve the assignments, and hand them in on time. Pick up your
marked assignments.
Prepare for the mid-term test. Pick up your marked mid-term paper.
Prepare for the final exam.

Assignment Due Time & Location


4 assignments, 4 x 5 % = 20 %
Where to get the assignments: download them from your Blackboard.
Due date will be posted on each assignment.
Assignments will be collected at 2:00 pm on the due date. Note: in
fairness to those who submit work on time, 10 % per day will be
deducted from late submissions and late assignments will not be accepted
later than 3 days after the deadline.
Where to drop off your solved assignment: Filing cabinet in the lower
mezzanine in the Civil Engineering Department (CBY).
Where to collect your marked assignments: From the Teaching
Assistants offices, during office hours.
