ABSTRACT
The issue having an updating type of business is very paramount in any
establishment nowadays. Therefore we intend to aid our
choosenestablishment by integrating a hardware that involves an individual
to enter the bar code number before getting an access to some items. This
kind of system requires user which is the employee to insert an already
programmed code to gain access to some products information. By this, we
mean that there is a room for more than one product in an establishment
with different information to access in the same hardware device which is
their computer and connect it to our implement hardware device which is the
bar code scanner. Also, with this kind of system we also intend to implement
for any reason that the user want to search an items type and its prices in
fastest and easiest way by just tracing it using its different tracing numbers.
The establishment has already the records of all the products so its more
easier for them to find what they want by all depends of the customers
choice. But before that, the user which is the stores employee must enter
users name and password first.
By the use of keypad, monitors display and some electronic devices coupled
together will help in accomplishment of that. Here an individual which is the
user have to enter a password that only the establishment could access, this
is read for clarification and verification. For this project, we hope to build an
alternative Sales and Inventory System with bar code scanner for an
establishment we choose.

1. DESCRIPTION OF THE RESEARCH

Many of establishments or companies provide services to their customers
manually. Like for just simple making of receipt through manual way,
checking the remaining stocks or stocking the total sales to receive in
traditional way causing takes a lot of time for the customers. But today, by
the use of technology, we can automatically receive products and transact
businesses in just a few clicks.
Sales and Inventory System (SIS) with the use of barcode scanner is one of
the fast and easiest ways to compute the daily record in an establishment. It
provides a sufficient method that helps create an easy way of storing data of
the store. This kind of system helps you to enhance your ability to work
conveniently providing a secure way for customers to pay through their
chosen products. This can help reduce your paperwork, give better control of
your operation and increases the profitability of it. SIS also provides a

platform for a complete management that gives you all the requirements and
application you need.
Some establishments nowadays are still contented into their businesses in
manual way. Even though it is slower than what we think still they chose to
use it maybe because they just cant afford yet the expenses to have their
own system. Better to give them motivation or encourage them to have it
on.
Automated System using bar code scanner is the most helpful in terms of
providing good services in some establishment. It helps to make the task in
less time consume.

1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Many of the stores around the city needs for an improvement for their
businesses by the help of technology. It is a tool to help people and
establishments workers make their work faster and easier. There are many
stores exist around the city that are still uses a manual way of running their
stores. One of them is the establishment we choose for our thesis study.
TYPE R MOTORPARTS AND ACCESSORIES is the establishment that provides
the good quality of motor parts and its accessories around the city.
It is located at W.Pulmones Street Santiago District, Pagadian City.Own by Mr.
Edgar Villamor and his wife Mrs. Luisa Villamor who also takes in charge and
manages in computing the whole products that are purchased and sold. They
also have five workers who are assigned for helping customers need when it
comes to fixing their motorcycles and repairing some damages on it and it is
located just in front of the store.
The establishment also provides all kinds of materials from smallest to
medium size of motor parts to your motor cycles and its accessories
according to your need.
Putting an automated type of system in the establishment gives a large
opportunity for businesses, both with respect to technological development
and services.

1.2 OVERVIEW OF THE CURRENT STATE OF TECHNOLOGY

Brief History:
The invention of the system is credited to Joseph Woodland. He became
obsessed with the idea which his friend Bernard Silver shared with him that
he even dropped out on school to concentrate on creating a viable product.

The idea came to Woodland from his friend, Bernard Silver who overheard a
supermarket executives wish of having an automatic system for capturing
product information.
He later came up with the idea of using Morse code on a piece of paper. But
instead of using dots and dashes, he extended the dots and dashes to form a
series of broad and then lines.

October 20, 1949 Woodland and Silver filed a patent application for a
Classification Apparatus and Method.

In the 1950s and 1960s KarTrak was the first implementation system
developed by David Collins for the Boston and Maine Railroad
company.

In 1966 the National Association of Food Chains (NAFC) began to

discuss the idea of automated checkout systems.

In the mid-1970s the NAFC established the U.S. Supermarket Ad Hoc

Committee on a Uniform Grocery Product Code, to create basic
guidelines for barcode development and an effective coding system.
This led to the creation of a standardized 11-digit code to identify any
product.

June 26, 1974 the critical moment when the first barcode was
scanned in a supermarket in Troy, Ohio. It was a 10-pack of Wrigleys
Juicy Fruit gum.

Current State of Technology

Innovation have made possible for the operations of the computer easy
enough in processing record systems such as, creation of data records,
storing, filling and retrieval of data.
The invention of barcoding has made inventories in an establishment more
accurate. Before the discovering of the barcode, the system of keeping
inventory involved clerks listing products manually. This was very inaccurate
and resulted to plenty of errors. These errors could translate to business
losses that time.
Nowadays, the invention of barcode made things easier and more convenient
for consumers. Workers can instantly identify products with a high rate of
accuracy. The process of registering packages by reducing the reading and
typing identification numbers to just pointing a scanner at the barcode. The
establishment clerk can also use this technology to ring up dozens of
products within a minute. They dont have to wait long especially for the
customers turn for their purchases to be processed since there is no need to
manually record the transaction. The establishment can also use the

technology to maintain tightly the control over inventory. When the stocks
arrive in the store, the staff which is the one assign can scan the products
before going on shelves for an arrangement, for this reason those records
with records of barcodes scanned at the register and maintain its inventory
data.
Barcode technology has become well known to many consumers, but they
are just takes it for granted. But still the technology continues to offer some
benefits especially those in business sectors. With only some basic printing
equipment and the available barcode scanner, businesses can use this
technology to improve speed and efficiency without hassle and effort.
1.3 RESEARCH OBJECTIVES
This research used to compare the manual way of recording information into
an automated type of system in the establishment.
The ultimate goal is to provide the store how effective and more convenient
this dilemma if implement this in the establishment.
We also want to witness how the establishment change in some way of
approaching the customers, particularly in purchasing the items.
It is our intention that this result will provide scientific and logical facts and
we can say to ourselves that Yes we may be able to implement this study
with the small business that we choose for our study.

1.4 SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS OF THE RESEARCH

Our study aims to investigate the status of Sales and Inventory System with
the use of Bar Code Scanner in an establishment only, but this is not
concerned about any traditional type of system.
This includes in this scope those Sales and Inventory System which are
exclusively functioning around the city.
The study includes those Sales and Inventory System using Bar Code
Scanner which is available in the city according to various standard sources
that provides the list of information on this said system.
This study does not concern about those system that exist its function online
or in web-visibility. This type of system will only be functioning offline and the
products information are secured only on the establishments database.

1.5 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This Sales and Inventory System using bar code scanner is built to upgrade
the process of marketing to both consumer and retailer in a simplest way. It
obtains faster, more comfortable and efficient way of purchasing and selling
items automatically rather than to work with it manually.
The system is intended to the said store for the purpose of utility manpower
and takes less time consuming for both the consumer and the retailer.
The system is also useful in purchasing and selling the items for it has
broader capabilities of storing data that are used in the said store.

2. REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

This chapter includes the ideas, finished thesis, generalization or conclusions
and others. Those that were included in this chapter helps in familiarizing
information that are relevant and similar to the present study.
According to Aquino, importance of implemented system in an establishment
is increasing day by day. In the latest decades of the Millennium, winning
organization are those which are willing to integrate business strategy and
computer information technology in running their respective trades. The use
of computer technology results for them to be able to develop information of
the products fast and make decisions fast, ability to have fluid organizations
structures, able to cope with the demanding work force and external
environment by the rapid development of innovate approaches and lastly
using implement system confirms the certain establishments mission vision.
Our chosen establishment need an upgrading type of business. This results
for them to attract customers and motivate a consumer to earn an income.
Costumers are attracted because the use of the upgrading type of business
makes the transactions faster and easier.
