Main barriers to educational achievement faced by eligible pupils

Low levels of oral language and vocabulary which impacts on access to all
areas of learning and the curriculum.

Family engagement, support at home and educational aspirations.

Spending the pupil premium allocation to address barriers and reasons for the approach

To ensure all pupil premium children make at least good progress. Children
who need to make accelerated progress are identified and interventions are
put in place for those children. Teachers identify all interventions for pupil
premium children to enable good progress from their starting point. At Key
Stage 1, we are aiming to close the gap between pupil premium and non pupil
premium children, particularly in Maths. All teachers performance
management target is to ensure that pupil premium children make good
progress.

Foundation and Key Stage 1 staff to model a demonstration Maths session

for parents to engage parents in the strategies used at Kingsley Primary
School and how they can help their children at home. Numicon
representations are created and given to all parents as a resource to use at

home to support their children with their number work at home. Key Stage 1
staff will be sharing this with parents as a result of previous end of Key
Stage 1 pupil premium achievement at Kingsley compared to achievement
nationally to ensure that at the end of this academic year we are in line with
national data. Currently, we are already on track with national for 2016/17.

3 teaching assistants are allocated to work 1:1 with individual children full
time and focus on the Maths and Literacy skills needed to catch up and try
and close the gap.

2 special needs teaching assistants currently work on 1:1 catch up

intervention programmes for Maths and Literacy with several pupil premium
children in Key Stage 1 and 2.

Family Support Worker/Learning Mentor employed to work with children and

families regarding issues in and out of school. Pupil premium children are
completing well being programmes with the learning mentor to enable them
to better access the teaching and learning in the classroom. Parents and
families are also working with the Family Support Worker to gain support
for various aspects of home life.

To engage children in all aspects of school and provide opportunities for

music, drama and sports to increase their self esteem and confidence in all
areas, therefore giving a positive self image which can be transferred to
areas of learning.

Teachers to work alongside parents to support children at home including:

parents evening and ensuring that parents attend to enable them to
support their child at home, teachers to give ideas and resources to
use at home
parents sessions for early phonics, early reading and phonics screening
subscription to online reading website to access at school and at home
maths demonstration lesson in the classroom for parents to observe

Measuring the impact of pupil premium
