GOVERNOR MUTUA APPOINTS TASK FORCE TO REFORM COUNTY HOSPITALS

Provision of world class Healthcare services in Machakos County is dear to me. It is in this regard that I have
today constituted the Machakos Health Services (Management of Health Facilities) Reforms Advisory Task
force as follows:
1. Chairman - Mr. Peter Mutie
2. Vice Chair - Advisor to the Governor on Public Service
Members
- Machakos Minister for Health
- Representative of Machakos Nurses' Union
- Representative of Machakos Doctors' Union
- Representative of Health Workers
- Chair, Maendeleo Ya Wanawake, Machakos County
- Advisor to the Governor on Quality Assurance
- Any other two members that may be suggested by the members for consideration by the Governor
- Facilitator - Machakos County Secretary
Terms of Reference
Objective:
A. To put in place a system that ensures provision of quality, efficient and caring health services in Machakos.
B. To enable the setting of international standards in terms of health services, cleanliness, physical quality of
health facilities and procedures.
C. To make Machakos county the leading health provider in Kenya and the region.
Key areas
1. Study the current structures of Health Provision in Machakos County
2. Study other structures of efficient health provision in Kenya
3. Study international standards in countries such as South Africa, Mauritius, India, Australia, New Zealand, the
U.K, European Union, Canada and the United States among others. This to be through literature review and
correspondence - not visitations.
4. Recommend short term reform measures in health care management and services
5. Recommend long term reform measures in health care management and services
6. Set clear minimum standards to be followed/met by Machakos health facilities from dispensaries to hospitals.
Timeline
1. To discuss with the Governor the initial direction of work within seven days of this appointment.
2. To provide a report six weeks after the meeting in 1 above.
