COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course aims at enabling students to understand the financial decision making process and to
interpret the impact that these financial decision have on value creation within a firm. The theory of
financial management will enable the students to comprehend and analyze dynamic financial
situations effectively & efficiently; consequently resulting in accurate & correct application of
business decisions in real time scenario.
The course is designed to introduce the basic principles of financial theory and practical aspects of
business finance. These techniques taught will be equally applicable to various organizations whether
small or large, by adapting them to the real life situations confronted by financial managers.

The main objectives of this course are:


To introduce the concepts and theories of modern financial management.

To develop an appreciation for the usefulness of these theories for financial
making.

To develop the student's financial decision-making skills.

Upon completion of the course, the students should:
Be able to understand the basic principles regarding analysis of financial statements &
analyze the financial position of a corporation.
Achieve an understanding of the concept of cash flow statements and be able to develop
them.
Be able to forecast financial statements.
Acquire skills in developing Optimal Capital Structure of the Company.
Understand how company should manage its working capital.

TEACHING METHODOLOGY
The teaching methodology for this course will primarily be lecture based, with significant class
interaction. However, this method will be supplemented with a range of other teaching
methodologies as well.

Attendance:
Minimum 75% attendance is required. This is student responsibility to follow up on what they may
have missed due to absence from a teaching session through interaction with fellow students who
attended the class.

Late Submission:
There will be no retake of a quiz that a student misses. Late submission of assignments and case
analysis is discouraged and will be penalized by 10% of the assigned marks for each day of late
submission.

Dishonest Practice and Plagiarism:


Students are expected to avoid plagiarism. Plagiarism involves to claim some one else work as ones
own. The fact that a student might do it unintentionally still constitutes plagiarism and hence is strictly
prohibited. Students are expected to take reasonable care to ensure originality of their work. The
existence of plagiarism will result in zero marks on the assignment and will be notified to Head of
Department for further disciplinary actions.
