Fairytale Writing Assignment

First Draft Due: Monday, October 24th

Final Draft Due: Monday, October 31st
Introduction: We have been reading and learning about fairytales over the past few weeks. We have also
been practicing your writing skills! Now its your turn to create your own fairytale. Your fairytale can be
serious or humorous, but should contain many of the elements we have learnt are common to fairytales,
including a moral. The moral of your fairytale should illustrate something that is important to you or our
society.
Requirements for your fairytale:
Your fairytale must be/include:
At least 2 pages double-spaced, and no longer than 6 pages double-spaced.
Use an easy to read, size 12 font. You can never go wrong with Times New Roman.
A title.
A beginning, middle and end. It would be helpful to plan out the plot of your fairytale before you start
writing.
Classic fairytale elements (you are not expected to include all elements of fairytales, but the ones you
must include are good vs. evil, magic, and a moral.)
Use of proper grammar and spelling.
Your first draft can be either typed or hand-written. On the day that it is due, we will do peer-editing.
Any class time next week after the unit test will be used to write the final copy of your fairytales.
Your final copy can be typed, otherwise you must produce a neatly printed final copy.
Note: I am here to help you with anything and everything, except actually writing the fairytale for you.
You can brainstorm with me, run ideas by me and come to me for help with spelling and grammar (I will
check over your rough draft for you if you ask, so try and take advantage of that!)
