JOB OVERVIEW
Join the Engineering & Applied Science Graduate Trainee Program and launch your
career with OPG!
OPG has a diverse power generating portfolio consisting of Nuclear and Renewable
Energy. Our Nuclear fleet operates the Pickering and Darlington Nuclear Power
Stations, with ten operating reactors. Renewable Generation & Power Marketing
(RGPM) operates 2 biomass units, 4 dual gas/oil units and 65 hydroelectric
stations, all which play a vital role in helping to power Ontario.
We are currently recruiting for new graduate opportunities in our Nuclear and
Renewable Generation & Power Marketing business units. Our unique trainee
program allows professionals to obtain a broad understanding of the nuclear,
hydro/thermal, market operations and asset & transmission management
businesses through developmental rotations in various technical departments.
Throughout the program, recent graduates work closely and will be supported by a
network of dedicated OPG employees that include emerging leaders within the

organization as well as seasoned staff who are ready to coach and mentor. The
graduate trainee program is focused on building a foundation of talent that will lead
OPG into the future.
Expect to be challenged!
Our new graduate hires will apply their professional skills and experience in
providing station operational support, design and implementation expertise in
instrumentation, process control, software engineering, computer system
engineering, project management, market operations and asset and/or
transmission management.
Specifically, responsibilities may include:

Working with a multi-disciplined team of engineering and technical


specialists to support the operation of the various mechanical and electrical
systems. The team contributes to the overall objective of achieving an
integrated environment dedicated to the safe and reliable operation of
OPG's plants;

Developing and executing projects (preventative and corrective


maintenance) in compliance with customer expectations and the industry's
demanding set of regulations and standards;

Maintaining written documented processes and procedures to reflect


improved operating methods and additions to all supported systems; and,

Completing ongoing training and certifications to ensure skill levels are


sufficient and up-to-date.

Successful candidates will learn on the job and be required to complete


assignments supporting locations throughout the province. A moderate amount of
travel can be expected during the training period.
Please Note: There is no public transit to most of OPG's locations. All hires into
our Graduate Trainee Program must arrange for their own transportation. Some
shift work, for short durations, will be required during the program.
This is an ideal role for a recent or soon-to-be Engineering graduate interested in
gaining field engineering work experience and putting a solid education to work in a
practical setting.
We are seeking new graduates in the following disciplines:
Engineering: Mechanical, Electrical, Electrical with P&C Specialty, Civil, Chemical,
Nuclear, Computer, Software, Engineering Sciences, Mechatronics,
Materials/Metallurgy, Industrial, Environmental, and Engineering Physics.
Applied Science: Computer Science, Chemistry, Physics, and Math.
The successful candidates must be willing to learn, to take initiative, to troubleshoot, and to problem solve while possessing a "can do" attitude with a track record
in leadership and successes in varied endeavours.

Other critical skills you must have to be considered:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to


develop and deliver reports, briefings, project plans.

Good organizational and leadership skills, and to be a self-starter who can


work both independently and in a team environment that is dedicated to
engineering excellence and best practices.

In addition to the above skills, it would be beneficial to also have:


x

Practical experience gained during summer/co-op/intern employment or


other work experience in a technical, process or manufacturing environment.

Demonstrated safety consciousness.
