MSN Program Outcomes

1. Graduates of the MSN Program will Integrate comprehensive assessment, theory,

evidence, clinical judgment, research, patient values, and interprofessional
perspectives in advance nursing practice for diverse populations and environments.
I met this goal. During the MSN program, I was able to complete a head to toe
assessment by using the resources and tools gained throughout the program. I have
attended meetings and been a part collaboration utilizing interprofessional
perspectives and clinical judgements to improve quality outcomes for our residents
in long-term care. I have researched my final project with the goal of improving CNA
retention which aides in improved outcomes.
2.

Graduates of the MSN Program will Utilize information and technology to

communicate, educate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision
making for quality improvement processes.
I met this goal. Courses in the MSN program required discussion questions to be
answered and in doing this I was able to use information through readings,
discussions, and technology to enhance my knowledge and skill set. In researching
my project, I attended meetings (QA, daily stand up) in an attempt to make decisions
and address quality improvement interventions and new ideas to improve quality
outcomes.

3.

Graduates of the MSN Program will Synthesize ethical, economic, legal, and
political factors that influence health care to influence the organization and financing
of health care and educational delivery systems.
I met this goal. Courses in the MSN program allowed me to become more educated
on ethical, economic, legal, as well as political factors. During our stand up meetings
at work or QA meetings, I was a part of political discussions or changes in laws that
effect our budget, how we are paid by Medicare/Medicaid, and the need to remain
diligent in our quest to provide the best care possible.

4.

Graduates of the MSN Program will Collaborate to design, coordinate, and evaluate
patient-centered health care as a leader or member of an interprofessional team.
I met this goal. I attend daily stand up meetings as a part of an interdisciplinary team
to coordinate and provide resident-centered care, address safety issues/falls, or
infection control concerns. Also, there are instances where informal meetings are

needed to address immediate concerns relating to quality outcomes and resident

safety uncertainties.

5.

Graduates of the MSN Program will Contribute to nursing practice to improve health
care outcomes by translating evidence into practice.
I have completed this by being a part of the interdisciplinary team working together by
formulating and reviewing appropriate interventions on an individualized basis to
improve quality outcomes for residents. I work with the team by reviewing
interventions to determine appropriateness and effectiveness of those interventions to
improve safety and positive outcomes.

6.

Graduates of the MSN Program will Integrate evidence based findings for patientcentered and culturally responsive strategies for clinical prevention and health
promotion for diverse populations and environments.
I met this goal. I work with the geriatric population and am involved in caring for and
providing input to enhance safety and quality of care outcomes. I am part of a team
that cares for several deaf residents and I am learning to use sign language (ASL) to
communicate effectively with those residents. I also help to care for residents from
other countries who speak very little or no English at all and have learned strategies
to communicate with those individuals to meet their needs.

7.

Graduates of the MSN Program will Advocate for policies to improve population
health, access to quality care, and the profession of nursing.
I met this goal. I receive emails and information from Leading Age Kansas and the
organization in which I work. This information allows me to gain knowledge of
changes in laws, continuing education opportunities, CMS changes, as well as
seminars that are informative regarding access to care as well as community service
opportunities to improve healthcare within the community.

8.

Graduates of the MSN Program will Provide evidence of professional and personal
goal development and activities.
Professional and personal goal development was achieved through MSN course
work, research for project, collaborating with co-workers for quality improvement
outcomes, communicating with classmates to increase knowledge base, QA
meetings, employee relation meetings, and setting achievable goals in the onset.

9.

Graduates of the MSN Program will Integrate the 5 C's of caring - commitment,
conscience, competence, compassion, and confidence - in advanced nursing
practice.
I met this goal. On a daily basis I take pride in being committed to providing quality
cares, relying on my conscience to guide me to make the best decisions, be
competent in my job performance by listening and accessing information or
collaborating when in need of guidance or information. I show compassion by paying
attention to others needs doing what I can to assist them, and I show compassion by
being supportive and a lending an ear when concerns, issues, or anxieties arise.
