ABSTRACT
In the world, the dehydration caused by diarrhea is the leading cause of death in infants and
toddlers. Data from the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2005 showed diarrhea is the
second leading cause of child deaths in the world with 1.5 million children die each year from
this disease. During diarrhea, water and electrolytes (sodium, chloride, and potassium) lost
through liquid stools, sweat, urine and breathing. Dehydration occurs when loss of water and
electrolytes are not replaced. Death can follow severe dehydration if fluids and electrolytes are
not replaced either through oral rehydration solution Salts (ORS) or intravenously.
This study aims to reveal the electrolyte profile of pediatric patients who are dehydrated due to
diarrhea in Jayapura General Hospital. This research is a descriptive study. The samples used
were all children with diarrhea who are hospitalized who had met the inclusion criteria. Data
obtained by looking at the medical records of pediatric diarrhea. The data has been collected,
processed using SPSS. Of the 39 samples analyzed, 76.9% dehydration encountered mild /
moderate and 23.1% by weight dehdirasi. Ganggguan electrolyte occurred, ie, 48.7% of
hyponatremia, isonatremia 43.6%, 3% hypernatremia, hypokalemia 74.4%, 2.6% and 53.8%
hypochloremic hyperchlorae-. Overview electrolyte profile in children with diarrhea with
dehydration complications both mild / moderate or severe in this study is hyponatremia,
hypokalemia, and hyperchloride.
