The aim of this paper is to outline some of the most important researches made by
Ferenc Katona and co-workers in the fields of neurological development and early
rehabilitation. The most outstanding development of Katona was his contribution of
elementary sensoriomotor patterns (e. g., elementary sitting up, creeping and crawling)
and its use in early detection, habilitation and rehabilitation of infants with early brain
injury. In Katonas works it is important his proposition over rehabilitation in two aspects:
as prevention and as restructuration of functions. Other direction in his investigation has
been the introduction of the transuretral electrical bladder stimulation, to treat patients
with neurogenic bladder, mainly infant with myelomeningocele.
At the present time Katona is a Director of one of department of the Szabadsghegy
Paediatric Institute in Budapest, Hungry where continuous his work in collaboration with
Marianne Berenyi.
