8. Plant samples diagnosed w.r.t. nutritional disorders (year wise)
It is observed that iron deficiency is severe in the light textured soils in paddy whereas manganese
deficiency is severe after the first irrigation to wheat especially in light textured soil with sickle shaped
ears. Thus farmer were suggested suitable measures to take care of these nutritional disorders and
recommended to go for integrated nutrient management that is use of chemical fertilizers along with the
Farm yard manure, piggery and Poultry waste etc so that deficiency of micronutrients can be well
checked in future.
These campaigns were organized in collaboration with some agency viz. IFFCO, KRIBHCO, NFL etc.
where farmers were guided regarding the soil sampling techniques for the different purposes viz. for
fertilizer application, for kallar reclamation and for orchard plantation.

Discussion:
Neem-coated urea gives 1.0 to 1.5 % higher yield as compared to normal urea. However, this
increase in yield was found to be non significant. It was noticed that there was a decrease in yield
(14.9%) at all 4 locations with application of 80 % normal as well as neem coated urea compared to 100
% normal as well as neem coated urea. Therefore, farmers must go for PAU recommendation regarding
urea fertilizer in Wheat/ Paddy crop.

Discussion : The results were directly proportionalto the inherent soil fertility status as Sh. Jageer
Singh S/o Sh. Sohan Singh obtained highest yield as the soil was medium in OC(%), high in P (kg/ha)
and low in K (kg/ha) whereas Sh. Paramjit Singh S/o Sh. Bhajan Singh obtained least grain yield
probably due to low O.C(%), Medium P (kg/ha) and Low K (kg/ha) fertility status of his plot. However, in
general, no significant effect of Neem-coated Urea was observed in both sequences viz 80% and 100% .

Discussion :
Highest response or percent increase in yield was observed in the field of Sh. Mohinder Singh
S/o Kesar Singh of village Blerkhanpur as supported by the other parameters viz. Effective tillers/M 2
(3t/m2) and 1000 grain wt (9.1%) (Maximum increase in these parameter in response to potash as
compared to others). However, percent increase in 1000 grain weight varied from 6.21 to 9.10%.
Therefore, it was evident that 4.0 to 5.8% increase in grain yield is possible if Potash fertilizer is applied in
potash deficient soils. For this, testing of soil samples is must.

Discussion : A study was conducted to study the agronomical efficiency of neem coated urea (NCU)
during Kharif season 2008 using paddy as a test crop. Tabulated data are presented of the average yield
per hectare using different levels of normal urea and NCU. Results indicated that 3.01 per cent higher crop
yield could be obtained when NCU was applied at 100 per cent recommended level of N- application as
compared to 100 per cent normal urea. However, application of 80 % NCU compared with 80 % normal
urea gave marginal increase in yield (0.86%). Comparison of 80% NCU vs. 100 % normal urea in
anticipation to reduce the dose of nitrogen met no results as there is significant reduction in yield (viz 58.98
q/ha in 80 % NCU and 64.56 q/ha in 100% normal urea).

The field of Sh. Jageer Singh of village Karal Nau Bad was having Phosphorus as medium whereas
the fields of other farmers were low in phosphorus. The data regarding grain yield showed that there was 3.6
% in yield with the application of 187.5 kg SSP/ha over control where as the percent increase in yield varied
between 3.0 to 5.0 % with the application of 237 kg SSP/ha. Hence farmers must apply "P" fertilizer to wheat
crop according to the available phospurus status which will be available on getting the soil tested.

T1 Recommended ( 275 Kg.urea /ha)
T2 25 per cent more than the recommendations .
T3 50 per cent more than the recommendations.( Farmer’s Practice)
Methodology
To get optimum paddy yield particularly in light textured soil is a matter of serious concern. PAU
recommended 110 kg of urea for medium textured soils but farmers claim that even upto 50% more than
the recommendation, they got the response. Keeping this in mind and to judge the exact dose of urea in
light textured soils, an on-farm trial was conducted. A basal dose of 75 Kg.DAP/ha was used at the time
of puddling.
Results:
Treatment Urea applied Variety 100 grain wt. Tillers/hill Yield (q/ha)

doses
Discussion:
Results showed that application of urea upto 25% more than recommendation holds good as
upto this level 13.0 q/ha increase in yield of Paddy variety PAU-201 was observed than the
recommendation. Further, Urea @ 50% more than the recommendation also showed response but only
5.5 q/ha increase was observed over 25% more which was found uneconomical. In T2 treatment by
spending Rs. 188/- on account of 25 % more quantity of urea than T1, Additional benefit to the extent of
Rs. 10,075 /-( increase of 13 q Paddy @ Rs. 775/-qt.). However, this increase was of Rs. 4,262/- in
treatment T3 (50 % more quantity of urea than T1). Hence, it was concluded that farmers should apply 25
% more amount of urea in Paddy if grown in light textured soils.

Methodology
Levelled land is a pre requisite for getting the optimum yield in paddy due to the fact that Paddy
requires sub merged conditions for the first 15 days to get it established after transplanting. Mostly some
nursery seedlings die either lack or excess of water in the field. Thus, precision land leveling is a must for
getting proper yield. Moreover, it takes more time to irrigate the field if it is unlevelled. Keeping this point
in view, an on farm trial was conducted in which, 0.4 ha area was laser levelled and other 0.4 ha.area was
ordinary levelled.
Results:
Discussion:
From the data it was evident that it took 11.25 hrs. to irrigate one ha. area if plot is laser levelled
in comparison to 16.25 hrs. required to irrigate ordinary levelled plot. Similarly there was considerable
saving in the quantity of water used for irrigation purpose in laser leveled plot than the ordinary leveled.
However, there was no significant difference obtained in the yield of Paddy between two treatments.

An experiment was conducted at the field of two farmers to quantify the effect of potash
application on wheat yield in soils low in inherent potash. Potassium was applied @ 50 and 75 kg ha -1. A
basal dose of Nitrogen and P2O5 @ 125 and 62.5 kg ha-1 respectively was also applied. Application of
MOP @50 kg ha-1 resulted in increase in grain yield varying from 7.7 to 9.6% where as T3 as compared
to T2 showed a negligible increase. Similarly 1000 grain weight increased by 6.7 per cent in T2 as
compared to control. However the higher dose of potash showed only marginal increase in 1000 grain
weight. Thus 50 kg ha-1 potash is optimum dose for wheat.

Discussion
Results of on farm trials regarding Happy seeder, Rotavator and Farmer's practice revealed that
grain yield was the highest (19.18 q/acre) where sowing was done with Happy seeder where as it re corded
to be lowest in plots where rotavator was used.

Discussion
The per cent increase in yield of Gobhi Sarson under FLD plots varied from 10.9 to 15.0 over the
farmers practice. The variation in grain yield was probably due to the difference in soil fertility status as apparent
from soil analysis done before laying out demonstrations. Highest grain yield (18.80 q/ha) was obtained at the field
of Sh. Harjinder Singh of village Patti Navi Bakash where the inherent fertility status analysis of soil revealed that
soils were medium in available phosphorous (16.2 kg/ha) and high in available potash (158.4 kg/ha) as compared to
Sh. Sukhjinder Singh of Village Mohablipur where soil status was low in phosphorous (10.4 kg/ha) and potash
(118.4 kg/ha). Further weather conditions at growing and harvesting stage have also affected the yields obtained.
The increase observed in the FLD plot over the farmer practice was probably due to the application of fertilizers as
per soil test reports and spray of insecticides at ET level of insects.

The per cent increase in grain yield varied from 11.8 to 20.4 in FLD plots over the farmer's practice. The
highest percent increase was observed on the field of Sh. Joga Singh of village Khalru viz 20.4% and the grain yield
was also reported to be highest from the same farmer viz 18.05 q/ha in FLD's plot. This may be due to good inherent
soil fertility. The increase in yield in FLD plots could be attributed to timely management of weeds and insect pests
(by spraying Thiodan at flowering time).
