Introduction
Playing games is a natural part of growing. Its one way that kids learn to socialize,
compete, to fulfil their craving ego, to entertain, to have fun and sometimes to escape from
depression. Computer and online games, in most instances, are no more dangerous than other
games that kids play outdoors. But sometimes, computer and online games with the touch of
modern technology, it become more than just play. They become an addiction. And when they
became an addiction, it will be hard for the parents and to them to end what has been started.
Computer games are slowly arousing and it is one of the things that bring the negative effect.
Many people are playing and having so much fun with this that can be a form of entertainment.
This research is intended to prevent the addiction of the minors in playing computer
games specifically DOTA. We have included negative and positive effects of the game, its
advantage and disadvantages and some professional advices. Online games like DOTA can be
a good social platform of the minors if it was directed the right way.
Defence of the Ancients (DotA) is a multiplayer online battle arena mod for the video
game Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and its expansion, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, based on
the "Aeon of Strife" map for StarCraft. The scenario objective is for each team to destroy the
opponents' Ancient, heavily guarded structures at opposing corners of the map. Players use
powerful units known as heroes, and are assisted by allied heroes and AI-controlled fighters. As
in role-playing games, players level up their heroes and use gold to buy equipment during the
mission.[1]
The scenario was developed with the "World Editor" of Reign of Chaos, and was
updated upon the release of its expansion, The Frozen Throne. There have been many
variations of the original concept; the most popular being DotA Allstars, which eventually was
2

simplified to DotA with the release of version 6.68.[2] This specific scenario has been maintained
by several authors during development, the latest of whom is the anonymous developer known
as "IceFrog" who has developed the game since 2005.
Since its original release, DOTA has become a feature at several worldwide
tournaments, including Blizzard Entertainment's Blizz Conand the Asian World Cyber Games,
as well as the Cyber athlete Amateur and Cyber Evolution leagues; in a 2008 article of video
game industry website Gama sutra, the article's author claimed that DotA was probably "the
most popular and most-discussed free, non-supported game mod in the world". [3] DotA is largely
attributed to being the most significant inspiration for the multiplayer online battle arena genre.
[4]

Valve Corporation acquired the intellectual property rights to DotA to develop a stand-alone

sequel, Dota 2, which was released in 2013.[5][6]

many hours played in 1 day. Slight gamer: 1-3hrs, moderate gamer: 4-6hrs, and addictive gamer:
7hrs and above. After collecting all the data, make a graphs or diagram based on the data collected.
Conduct a computation from the data collected, starting from the measures of central tendencies for
the grouped and ungrouped data. And also, conduct a computation for the measures of variability.

Conclusions
Therefore the researchers conclude that if DotA is affecting someones academic or personal
life, do take a break and focus on other areas of your life. The focus of life shouldn't be around one
game. So just keep in mind that there's more to how you are living than just this game, and if you
feel addicted to it to the point where you can't give attention to anything else that is good for you it is
a good idea to temporarily uninstall the game and find joys in other parts of life.

The reason why Dota is so hard to stop is because it is designed to be extremely engaging on
multiple levels:
1. Self-improvement/Technical Skill: The game is real time and many people enjoy developing
technical skills like hitting tennis balls more accurately etc. Last hitting for example is extremely
calming for many players, in particular support players taking a break from the stress of early mid
game map control. There is no ceiling for certain heroes like Meepo and Naga Siren and Chen can
always be played better. However there is also a relatively low floor and most casuals can get by just
fine (most players are under 3k) controlling 1 not terribly technical hero like Wraith King or Ogre
Magi.
2. Replay ability: 100+ heroes with 10 each game and 2 teams you never have the same game
twice. People like variety.
3. Competition - Mind games: There are tons of mind games people can play in this game with
juking, wards, smoke, drafting etc. some people get off on this outplaying people thing. Like poker
players.

4. Optimization/Drafting: some people get off on out thinking/strategizing the enemy. These people
tend to be captains/most active after new patches and play draft based games like Heath stone or
Magic the Gathering.
5. Learning Curve: For whatever reason people take pride in sunk costs learning how to do
complicated things like programing has (programming language).
6. Community: things with high learning curves tend to have tight knit elitist communities. Dota is
toxic but Dota friends tend to be close thru sheer number of hours spent together.
There's probably more I'm missing but finally like all games, it is a safe and ultimately
inconsequential practice area for people to explore themselves and human interaction.

The way to break an addiction like this is to realize which of these things, maybe several or all drive
you and find something that does the same but healthier. Or go pro.
