COURSE DESCRIPTION
This is an Intermediate level English. Advanced B English is made up of 60 hours of face to face
class time. During this course, students will work on and develop the 4 skills of the English
language: speaking, writing, listening and reading at an Upper Intermediate level. Students will

also learn grammar structures and vocabulary suitable for this level. In order to pass the course,
students must get a minimum mark of 60 points over 100. These points come from a midterm
and a final exam. Some of the points also come from homework , quizzes and an oral exam

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES


At the end of the course, the student will be able to:
1. Listening: Students can understand the main points of clear standard speech on familiar
matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. Ss can understand the main
point of many radio or TV programmes on current affairs or topics of personal or
professional interest, when people speak relatively slowly and clearly.
2. Reading: Students can understand texts that consist mainly of high frequency every day or
job-related language and can understand the description of events, feelings and wishes in
personal letters or emails.

3. Speaking (interaction): Students can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst
travelling in an area where the language is spoken. Students can enter unprepared into
conversation on topics that are familiar, of personal interest or pertinent to everyday life.
4. Speaking (production): Students can connect phrases and sentences in a simple way in
order to describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions. Students can
briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions. Students can narrate a story or relate the
plot of a book or film and describe their reactions.
5. Writing: Students can write simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of
personal interest. Students can write personal letters describing experiences and
impressions.
6. Language: Students can use the Present Perfect Simple and Continuous, first, second and
third conditional, reported speech, indirect questions and passive verb forms to talk about

problems in the home, memory, truth and lies, a personal interest, mistakes and acts of
kindness and bravery.

WORKLOAD: THEORY/PRACTICE

There are 2 sessions each week and each session lasts 2 hours. The weekly class load is 4 hours
per week.

CONTRIBUTION OF THE COURSE TO THE EDUCATION OF THE STUDENT

The English Advanced B course contributes to the development of professionals by expanding the
students knowledge of the English language so that he or she can express him or herself in an
English speaking environment. In this course the four skills of speaking, listening, reading and
writing continue to be developed. This course contributes with upper intermediate level
vocabulary, language and expressions. It also develops the students abilities to work in pairs and
in groups. The student will feel motivated and will lose his/her fear of expressing him/herself in
public because he/she would have already practiced English during the course.
