NAME:

Science Year 8
Term 3, 2016
We are learning to compare the different processes of
rock formation, and understand the timescales
involved.
Task Description
Students are required to complete a brochure on a chose
geological feature found in Australia.
For their chosen rock formation they must research and present
information on;
- its physical features as seen today
- what type of rock it is and how it was formed (including how
long ago)
- what natural processes are impacting on its formation
- special features, or information of interest
- cultural significance
You must also include a bibliography showing which resources you
used.
Overall Success Criteria
I can identify a range of rock types using observable physical
and chemical properties
I can recognise and describe the use of rocks and minerals as
valuable resources
I can represent the stages and time scales for the formation
of igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks
I can describe the role of forces and energy in the formation
of different types of rocks and minerals
(Aspect(s) of achievement standard being assessed in the task).
