Outcomes

Identify and compute the rate of thermal energy transfer, via conduction, convection and
radiation, between systems or a system and its surroundings.Solve differential and algebraic
equations associated with steady state heat conduction in simple geometries

Develop solutions for transient heat conduction in simple geometries with methods such as
lumped capacitance, Heisler charts etc.

Identify the fundamentals of convective heat transfer process and Apply dimensional analysis to
predict formulas which connect particular variables in given circumstances.

Select and apply appropriate analytical/numerical solution techniques and/or correlations to

evaluate heat transfer coefficients for natural convection, forced convection inside ducts and
over exterior surfaces.

Select and apply appropriate analytical/numerical solution techniques and/or correlations to

evaluate heat transfer coefficients for evaporation and condensation.Analyze heat exchanger
performance by using the method of log mean temperature difference and analyze heat
exchanger performance by using the method of heat exchanger effectiveness.

Calculate radiation heat transfer between black body surfaces, calculate radiation heat exchange
between gray body surfaces.
