ABSTRACT

Muhammad Ilham Dilaga. 2015. The Correlation Between Parents Role in childs
Assistance while Watching Television with Violent Behavior on Boys Aged 7-12
Years at Public Elementary School 01 Mamben Daya East Lombok. Thesis. S1 in
Nursing Program at Hamzar Health Sciences College East Lombok, under the
guidance of Ns. Lalu Win Isvandiar, S.Kep,.M.Si, as first counselor, Apriana
Sartika, S.Kep. Ns, as second counselor.
The role of parents to assist their children while watching television with violent
behavior of boys is if parents do not assist their children they can not choose the
appropriate program with the childrens age, and to provide understanding if the
children adapt behavior in television, therefore there is a correlation between
parents role in childs assistance while watching television with violent behavior
on children.
This research design was descriptive correlation and used cross-sectional
approach. Population of this research was all male students at Public Elementary
School 01 Mamben Daya East Lombok. By using total sampling technique, there
was 78 respondents who had reduced with the inclusion criteria.
Data were analyzed statistically by using Chi-Square test. Student whose parents
role less in category showed high violent behavior 56,0%, where as students
whose parents role in sufficient category showed high violent behavior was
11,8%, and students whose parents role in good category did not have violent
behavior in high category. Results of the chi-square test obtained Chi-Square
value p-value = 0,000 < 0,05. This shows that there is a significant correlation
between parents role in childs assistance while watching television with violent
behavior on boys aged 7-12 years at Public Elementary School 01 Mamben Daya
East Lombok.
Parents are expected to guide and choose appropriate program TV for children, so
it can give positive impact for children. The results of this study can be used as a
follow up for further research on the correlation factors that influence the childs
violent behavior, other factors such as play station game parenting factors,
teaching and punishment of teachers pattern and others.
