Job Description: Program Coordinator Aboriginal Pathways to Employment

Position Summary: The primary purpose is to Coordinate the Aboriginal Pathways to Employment
(Tyendinaga) program by recruiting, marketing, interviewing, selecting aboriginal youth, providing
support to program participants and reaching out to area employers/job developing to uncover work
experience opportunities for program participants.
Program dates: November 7, 2016 to June 30, 2016

Competencies Required
a. Ability to counsel Aboriginal youth in a supportive, solution-focused manner
b. Ability to advocate to employers, training providers and other service providers, on behalf of
individuals requiring assistance with the job search/placement
c. Ability to work and communicate effectively within a team environment
d. Ability to promote confidentiality as a norm
e. Ability to operate a computer and a variety of software programs
f. Understand the challenges facing youth with barriers to employment
g. Excellent understanding of the local labour market and job development experience
h. Must possess strong interpersonal skills; active listening and decision-making skills
i. Must treat all individuals with equal respect and interact in a tactful, supportive, professional
manner
Qualifications
Job development/placement experience
Minimum of two years experience in counselling/teaching youth with barriers
Post-secondary education
Marketing/sales experience an asset
Demonstrated organizational skills
Strong presentation/facilitation skills
Excellent communication and report writing skills: verbal, non-verbal, written, and electronic
Proficiency in English.
Valid drivers license and reliable vehicle
Duties and Responsibilities

assessing eligibility, interviewing individuals and selecting program participants


clarifying employment and training goals
assisting client with putting the necessary employment supports in place for the client (i.e. child
care, transportation)
work with employer and program participant to secure placement and complete employment
contract
site visit of employers work place for work place safety
regular monitoring of placement, in person and via telephone
following up with placement employers to ensure that needs are being met
providing issue specific counselling for clients experiencing difficulty
ensuring that all services are provided within the standards of service maintained by St.
Lawrence College

administrative duties such as preparing activity reports, managing Participant information forms
and following up on subsidy claim forms from employers.
