Types of pipe under A 53

Type F (Furnace Butt welded pipe, continuous welded)

Pipe produced in continuous lengths from coiled skelp and subsequently cut
into individual lengths having its longitudinal butt joints forge welded by
mechanical pressure developed in rolling the hot formed skelp through a set
of round pass rolls.
Type E (Electric resistance welded pipe)
Pipe produced in individual lengths or in continous lengths from coiled skelp
and subsequently cut into individual lengths having a longitudinal butt joints
wherein coalescence is produced by the heat obtained from resistance of
the pipe to the flow of electric current in a circuit of which the pipe is a part
and by the application of pressure.
Type S (Wrought steel seamless pipe)
Wrought steel seamless pipe is tubular product made without a welded
seam. It is manufactured by hot working of steel and if necessary, by
subsequently cold finishing the hot worked tubular product to produce the
desired shape, dimensions and properties.
Heat Input variables in welding:
Amperage, voltage and travel speed

Pipe identification for non-sour service

By painting a white longitudinal stripe, 50 mm wide, 450mm long
on the inside surface of both ends.

Creep Mechanism
1.

Body undergoes plastic deformation under the slip action of the

grains. (yielding at sub elevated temp)

2.

After slippage, material recrystallizes and hence yielding

continues without increasing the load. (yielding at elevated temp)

This phenomenon is called creep.

Rating is the max allowable non shocking pressure.
It is the poundage of materials that can withstand the operating pressure and
a test pressure as well.
