Introduction
Anxiety disorders are the most common of all the mental health disorders. Considered
in the category of anxiety disorders are: Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder,
Agoraphobia, Social Phobia, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Specific Phobia, PostTraumatic Stress Disorder, and Acute Stress Disorder. Anxiety disorders as a whole cost
the United States between 42-46 billion dollars a year in direct and indirect healthcare
costs, which is a third of the yearly total mental health bill of 148 billion dollars. In the
United States, social phobia is the most common anxiety disorder with approximately
5.3 million people per year suffering from it. Approximately 5.2 million people per year
suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder. Estimates for panic disorder range between 3
to 6 million people per year, an anxiety disorder that twice as many women suffer from
as men. Specific phobias affect more than 1 out of every 10 people with the prevalence
for women being slightly higher than for men. Obsessive Compulsive disorder affects
about every 2 to 3 people out of 100, with women and men being affected equally.

Causes of Anxiety Disorder

The exact cause of generalized anxiety disorder is not fully known, but a number of
factors-including genetics, brain chemistry and environmental stressors-appear to
contribute to its development. Some research suggests that family history can play a
part in increasing the chances that a person will develop chronic anxiety. This would
mean that the tendency to develop generalized anxiety disorder may be passed on from
generation to generation within a family.
Generalized anxiety disorder has been associated with abnormal levels of certain
neurotransmitters in the brain. Neurotransmitters are special chemical messengers that
help move information between nerve cells. If the neurotransmitters are out of balance,
messages cannot travel through the brain properly. This can alter the way the brain
perceives and reacts to certain situations, leading to anxiety.

II.Summary
Teen-aged brothers and best friends Buck and Conrad Jarrett were involved in a
boating accident which claimed Buck's life. Shortly thereafter, Conrad tried to commit
suicide. After a four month hospitalization, Conrad is back in his upper middle class
suburban Chicago home with his parents, Calvin and Beth Jarrett. The Jarretts

collectively are publicly trying to get on with their lives, Conrad who is back at high
school in his senior year partaking in his old activities such as the swim team and choir.
But things in the Jarrett household are not all right. Although stating he is unsure why he
decides to do so, Conrad restarts his psychiatric therapy outside of the hospital with a
Dr. Berger. This therapy may be able to uncover the reasons for the Jarrett's collective
unhappiness, and leads each to examine not only the overall family dynamic but the
individual relationships with each of the other two.

III.Analysis
I think the reason why Family Jarret has Anxiety disorder it is because of being
traumatized cause of losing of their beloving son named Bucks and also envolving of
Mr. Conrad of boating accident.
