Many scientific discoveries influence art.


Religion determine many aspects of Baroque art.
Political situation also influence.
The active trade and colonization policies accounted for numerous portrayals
that were exotics to Europeans.

CHARACTISTICS OF BAROQUE ART:


1. Artists use curvilinear and swirling lines to convey the emotions of life
subjects, projecting them to be lifelike and real.
2. Emotional drama expressed which is usually arranged by the use of
chiaroscuro ( play of dark and light) draws the viewers to be
thrilled/fascinated.
3. The techniques applied seem to vary according to the religion which the
particular artist professes.
4. In the Southern part where Rome was the center, painters chose religions
subjects to be executed from the Bible or Greek mythologies for metaphors.

THE MILK MAID


The Milkmaid, sometimes called The Kitchen Maid, is an oil-on-canvas
painting of a "milkmaid", in fact a domestic kitchen maid

LITTLE STREET
Straight angles alternate with the triangle of the house and of the sky

Vermeer was a master of incorporating shadow and light to his works.
He was able to achieve this style by using the camera obscura. This is
a kind of tool that is made of a box, which came with a hole and
equipped with a lens inside it.
