INTERNSHIP REPORT

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
All the praises and admires for our Almighty Allah who enabled me to complete
and write the internship and internship report on National transmission and
dispatch company Islamabad.
I want to acknowledge to all of those who helped me to complete my report and to
gain knowledge about activities throughout the period of my Internship in NTDC
and for writing the Internship report.
I want to pay great thanks to the NTDC staff in NTDC Islamabad who guided me
and helped me during my Internship over there. Great deals of appreciation goes to
my faculty of management who helped me to complete this report and their
assistant and cooperation whenever I needed, I contacted to them. Without their
guidance and kind attitude it was difficult for me to complete my report. Also, I
want to pay thanks to general manager of NTDC Islamabad for giving me this
great opportunity to do internship in his office.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
I joined NTDC Islamabad from 29/09/2016 to 07/10/2016. My internship report
includes all the information about my internship in two departments. The
information is collected from both the sources, primary and secondary.
National Transmission & Despatch Company (NTDC) Limited was incorporated
on 6th November, 1998 and commenced commercial operation on 24th December,
1998. It was organized to take over all the properties, rights and assets obligations
and liabilities of 220 KV and 500KV Grid Stations and Transmission
Lines/Network owned by Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority
(WAPDA). NTDC operates and maintains twelve 500 KV and twenty nine 220 KV
Grid Stations, 5077 km of 500 KV transmission line and 7359 km of 220 KV
transmission line in Pakistan.
NTDC was granted Transmission License No.TL/01//2002 on 31st December 2002
by National Electric Power Regularity Authority (NEPRA) to engage in the
exclusive transmission business for a term of thirty (30) years, pursuant to Section
17 of the Regulation of Generation, Transmission and Distribution of Electric
Power Act, 1997.

Purpose of study
Purpose of the study was two pronged

General purpose
To get acquaintance to the NTDC operations.
To see the application of our Professional studies especially.

Specific purpose
Specific purpose of the study includes.
A partial fulfillment as a requirement for the completion of Electrical
Engineering Degree.
To objectively observe the operations of NTDC in general and the operations
of NTDC in specific.
To make recommendations or implementation plans for the improvement of the
operations of NTDC in the light of our professional studies.

INTRODUCTION OF ORGANIZATION

INTRODUCTION OF ORGANIZATION
WAPDA, the Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority, was created in
1958 as a Semi-Autonomous Body for the purpose of coordinating and giving a
unified direction to the development of schemes in Water and Power Sectors,
which were previously being dealt with, by the respective Electricity and Irrigation
Department of the Provinces.
Since October 2007, WAPDA has been bifurcated into two distinct entities i.e.
WAPDA and Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO). WAPDA is responsible
for water and hydropower development whereas PEPCO is vested with the
responsibility of thermal power generation, transmission, distribution and billing.
There is an independent Chairman and MD (PEPCO) www.pepco.gov.pk replacing
Chairman WAPDA and Member (Power) who were previously holding the
additional charges of these posts.
NTDC is a part of PEPCO.

MAIN FUNCTIONS

System Operator

Transmission Network Operator

Contract Registrar and Power Exchange Administrator

i) System Operator: For secure, safe and reliable operation, control and despatch
of generation facilities.
ii) Transmission Network Operator: For Operation & Maintenance, Planning,
Design and expansion of the 500 kV and 220 kV transmission network.
iii) Contract Registrar and Power Exchange Administrator (CRPEA): As
CRPEA, to record and monitor contracts relating to bilateral trading system.
NTDC Islamabad have two control room. One is NCC (National control center)
and other one is RCC (regional control center). Mainly NCC operate 500kv,
220kvand 132kv lines. Whereas RCC operate the 11kv commercial and local
distribution lines. They have to keep balance between generation and demand.
