METHODOLOGY

This data collection method is conducted by asking students to answer a selfadministrated questionnaire. The respondents of this study consisted of college students at
Northern University of Malaysia. We obtain a quota sample according to students school
programs and our group had choose 30 students from programs Bachelor of FinanceB.Fin(Hons). We administered an anonymous survey to respondents based on a volunteer basis.
Our aim was to investigate the awareness of students Northern University of Malaysia
towards the takaful or Islamic insurance. We also want to examine the understanding of students
regarding the concept and operation of takaful. Plus, we want investigate the knowledge of
students either they know the comparison between takaful and conventional insurance.
The first group of question within the survey asked for demographic information of
respondents, with matric no, current semester, age, gender and race. To obtain this measurement,
respondents were presented with a series of types of awareness on general information of takaful
and asked to tick if they familiar with takaful or not in the past. In the last section, respondents
need to rank their awareness on compliance of shariah due to knowledge about takaful, with a
ranking of one meaning the respondent is strongly disagree with the statement while a ranking
of five meaning respondent is strongly agree and a rating three signifying indifference. The
questionnaire of this survey is located in Appendix.
