2 years; Rs 1.40 lakh crore:

The fight against Black Money
The Income Declaration Scheme launched by the government in June, 2016 recorded disclosures worth Rs.
65,250 crores which will pull in extra revenue of almost Rs. 30,000 crores, in the form of taxes. Furthermore,
in the past two and a half years the Income Tax department has set a precedence of adopting various crucial
steps to tackle black money. Some of the steps include, mandatory quoting of PAN for cash transactions,
legislative changes, exchange of information agreements with major nations and on-ground action on tax
evasion cases. The Government has managed to unearth a substantial amount of Rs 56,378 crores alone,
through investigations in the last two years.
The IDS was a one-time chance to
declare illegally held assets and
incomes, that ended on 30th
September, in exchange of benefits
such as no enquiry, no scrutiny and
no prosecution. This will take the
government one step ahead in
achieving its goal of turning the
nations black money into white. As
the CBDT and the Income Tax
department tap into the parallel
economy of the country, a more
transparent relationship between
the tax payers and the revenue can
be expected. The revenue that came
through the black money recovery
will be used for the development of
villages, poor people, farmers and
youth.
