PREFACE
It is a great opportunity for us to have been studying the course of MBA in Construction Project Management
in the institute of RICS, Amity, Noida. In the accomplishment of this degree we are submitting a project report
on Site Selection & Feasibility Analysis. Subject to the limitation of time efforts and resources, every possible
attempt has been made to study the problem deeply. The whole project is measured and analyzed through
detailed questionnaire and research, the data further analyzed and further interpreted and the result was then
obtained.

PROJECT BACKGROUND
Lakes play an important role in helping irrigation as well as recharging ground water in the
surrounding areas. Lakes are an inherent part of the society in Indian culture and serve a variety of
purposes. The lakes of Ahmedabad, India serve as an oasis of tranquility in the midst of the hustle
bustle of the city life. Very peaceful and calm, the lakes provide a breathtaking view, thus making it a
very fascinating experience for the visitors.
SABARMATI RIVER: Sabarmati is one of the biggest rivers of north Gujarat. It originates from Dhebar
lake of rajasthan and meets with an Arabian sea. The river nourishes and fulfills a major part of water
requirement in Ahmedabad.
KANKARIA LAKE: It is a multisided lake that was built by Sultan Qutab-ud-Din in the year 1451 A.D. It
is basically an artificial lake with thirty four sides. The lake attracts good bird life and hence a popular
spot for bird watching. Kamla Nehru hill garden and zoological park is just near to this lake which is
known for its albino animals. It has a huge number of birds, mammals and reptiles.
CHANDOLA LAKE: It is a one of the water reservoir of city, Ahmedabad. Lake's water is used for
irrigation and other industrial purposes. There is a tomb of Shah Alam near the lake that is also a tourist
destination.
VASTRAPUR LAKE: Vastrapur Lake is situated in western part of Ahmedabad. It is officially named
after Narsinh Mehta.

Type of problem
Combustion of fossil fuels emit nitrogen products into the
atmosphere, which are carried down by rainfall and other
processes, causing eutrophication in water bodies

Deficiency in proper management: The number of lakes has been gradually decreasing because
some of the tanks have been converted into residential localities and some have been used by State
Departments for public purposes like bus stands, stadiums and residential layouts etc. Most of the live
Lakes have silted up due to faulty land management in the catchments and indiscriminate mud lifting
from the lake beds consequently their water impounding capacity has been reduced considerably apart
from rendering the water turbid. Conflict of interests among various land & water use sectors and their
failure to evolve common strategy. Paucity of overall understanding of the nature and benefits of lakes in
economic and ecological terms.

SCOPE OF STUDY
The scope of the study included to identify the locations where redevelopment of Lake Project could be
implemented. Two potential project sites Vastrapur lake & Chandola lake were identified during the
course of this study. The feasibility each of these sites was examined. This report documents the results
of this examination.

REGIONAL GEOLOGY
Ahmedabad is located on the banks of the River Sabarmati in the northern part of Gujarat
and the western part of India. It is located at 23.03N 72.58E spanning an area of 205 km. The
average elevation is 53 meters.
There are 3 main lakes located in the city limits the Kankaria lake, Vastapur lake and Chandola lake.
The city is located in a sandy and dry area. Except for the small hills of Thaltej-Jodhpur Tekra, the entire
city is almost flat. The Sabarmati bifurcates the city into eastern and western parts, connected by five
bridges, two of which were constructed after independence. Though the river is perennial, it gets dried
up in the summer, leaving only a small stream of water flowing.
There are typically three main seasons summer, monsoon and winter. Barring monsoon, the climate is
very dry. The weather is very hot during the months of March to June with the average summer
temperature ranging from maximum 43 C to minimum 23 C. The months of November to February
have an average maximum temperature 36 C and a minimum of 15 C. The climate is extremely dry
Page 10 of 10
during that period. Cold northerly winds are responsible for a mild chill during January. The south-west
monsoon winds bring humid climate to Ahmedabad from mid-June to mid-September. The average
rainfall is 932 mm. The highest temperature recorded is 47 C and the lowest is 5 C.
