An African emperor who ruled Mali 500 years ago (14th century) discovered
America nearly 200 years before Christopher Columbus, according to African
historians. Mansa Abubakari II, the 'Voyager King' once ________(rule) what was
the richest and largest empire on earth - covering nearly all of West Africa.
According to a Malian scholar, Gaoussou Diawara in his book, The Saga of
Abubakari II, the emperor, Abubakari II _________(abandon) all power and gold
to pursue knowledge and discovery.
Abubakari's ambition was to explore the Atlantic Ocean. In 1311, he
______(leave) the throne to his brother Mansa Musa, and ______(go) on an
expedition with 2000 boats to cross the Atlantic.
Gold fields
The book also points to a research project in Mali looking for signs on
Abubakari's journeys.
"We are not saying that Abubakari II ______(is) the first ever to cross the ocean,"
says Tiemoko Konate, who heads the project
"There is evidence that the Vikings _______(is) in America long before him, as
well as the Chinese," he said.
The researchers claim that Abubakari's fleet of boats, loaded with men and
women, livestock, food and drinking water, _______(emigrate) from what is the
coast of present-day Gambia and in 1312, they _________(get to) the coast of
Brazil, in the place known today as Recife. The explorers _____(gave) this land
the name of Boure Bmabouk (Gold fields).
Black traders
Other historians _________(analyse) reports by Columbus. Columbus said he
_______(find) black traders already present in the Americas.
They also cite chemical analyses of spears made of gold that Columbus
_________(find) in the Americas. The analyses show that the gold probably
came from West Africa.
Mr Diawara says that the African historians _________(impose) a seal of silence
on the story, "They ________(find) his abdication a shameful act, not worthy of
praise," Mr Diawara said. "For that reason they refuse to praise or talk of this
great African man."
Mr Diawara says that only a few West African historians are slowly starting to
divulge the secrets on Abubakari II.

Living Mamooths
Evolutionists believed that mammoths became extinct more than 10,000 years ago.
But recently, Russian scientists found the remains of a group of woolly mammoths, on
an island off northeastern Siberia, according to the tests, this remains are less than
4000 years old.
This shock caused researchers to consider mammoths may have survived even longer
in the unexplored forests of Siberia.
The local Evenk tribe of northeastern Siberia were contacted in 1990 by Russians who
reported that they had well-preserved mammoth skins. The Evenks faithfully described
the appearance and behavior of the mammoth to astonished ethnographers, and even
detailed the beasts diet and how they hunted it. A Russian expedition in 1922
recorded accounts of mammoths being alivefrom the same tribe.
Many scientists are now more cautious about declaring when mammoths became
extinct. Dr Adrian Lister of London University says, We are not saying that mammoths
disappeared 4000 years ago. Were saying that in scientific terms, that is the latest we
have got evidence for them. It is always subject to revision .
