Instructor

Dr Majima is an associate professor at the Center for Applied Ethics and


Philosophy, Graduate School of Letters. He obtained his PhD from University
of Birmingham. His research interest covers ethics and political philosophy.
Dr Majima has dozens of publications on war/military ethics.

This programme is aimed at providing basic skills and ways of thinking when

About the
- EvansHave lived in Japan since the age of 2. Received all education in Japanese

and obtained undergraduate and masters degrees from Hokkaido University.
Research topics include Information Education and Automatic Music Composition.
Elementary education was done in English also. Have lived overseas for 4 years in
total.
Information technologies, such as computers and the Internet, are in great use in
modern society. Communication using information technology surpasses boarders
and allows for the exchange of information on a global scale. However, it can also
lead to more miss communication when compared to face-to-face exchange.
Course Outline In this course, we will consider thought patterns and attitudes (information ethics)
to safely and effectively share information on a global scale, keeping in mind the
differences each culture may entail. We will also aim to provide basic information
to keep one from getting involved in trouble regarding information while living in
Japan.

Information Ethics
One can develop their thoughts pertaining to topics of information ethics,
considering correct information that will be pointed out in posted material. Also, by
participating in discussions using online bulletin boards, one will be able to interact
with and consider others views. Both a global understanding regarding issues and
a basic understanding of information needed for life in Japan will be acquired.
Will understand how to safely manage passwords.
Will understand the importance of citing online material and other resources
correctly.
Will understand the importance of protecting personal information and will
acquire both knowledge and attitude for proper management.
