Dear Parent or Guardian:
Here at Newbrook we are all excited to be back at school and working with your children! The building is full of
excitement; we are all getting to know our new students and staff and gearing up for a great year. Please let us know if you
have any concerns so that we can help.
This letter is a report of the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) scores for our school from the Spring of
2015. We will soon be sharing the SBAC data from the Spring of 2016 and will be able to show a two-year comparison of
our scores on this assessment.
The Federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001 requires all local educational agencies (LEA) to publish an annual
report card containing information described in the law or identified by the state. Below are required School Reports for the
Windham Central Supervisory Union (WCSU) schools:

SBAC scores disaggregated by race, ethnicity, gender, disability status, migrant status, English proficiency and status as
economically disadvantaged. Federal legislation requires reporting the following data for each school where minimum n
count is 10 or more. So, when an * is in place of a number, that number denotes 9 or fewer children.

II. Students Not Required to Participate in State Assessments

100% of our student body, grades 3-6 participated in the SBAC Assessment, and 0% of our student body, grades 3-6 are
recently arrived Limited English Proficiency (LEP) students.
III. Two-year Trend Performance Data by Individual Grade Level
Schools in Vermont began taking the SBAC in 2015, therefore, two-year trend performance data is not available for our
schools at this time. Beginning in the 2016-17 school year, we will be able to compare SBAC scores over multiple years.
IV. Graduation Rate
Leland and Gray High Schools 2014 graduation rate was 100%! That is wonderful.
V. School Action Plans
Each school has developed action plans to address student performance. Our School Action Plan can be found at
http://www.newbrookschool.org/-action-plans.html. Paper copies are also available upon request. The WCSU
Comprehensive Plan for Continuous Improvement can be found at
http://www.windhamcentral.org/home/mission-core-values/strategic-plan.
VI. Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT) Findings
Teachers providing K-12 instruction in core academic areas, as defined by the federal No Child Left Behind Act of 2001
(NCLBA), must meet licensure and content knowledge requirements pertaining to their assignment. NCLBA defines core
academic areas as: English language arts (including English as a Second Language), math, science, social studies, reading,
foreign (modern) languages, art, music, and the generalist endorsement areas of elementary education and early childhood
education (grades K-3 only).
All of the teachers in our LEA are highly qualified.
VII. LEP Students Not Assessed
0% of our student body qualify as recently arrived Limited English Proficient (LEP) students who are not assessed on the
States reading /language arts test.
VII. NAEP Results
Annually some Vermont Schools are selected to participate in the National Assessment for Educational Progress (NAEP)
providing Vermont with state-wide results. NAEP does not provide scores for individual students or schools. Students in
grades 4 & 8 take NAEP assessments for Reading and Mathematics. Please see the attached NAEP scores for Vermont for
2015.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
