Example 1
Let us use the extended bottleneck model on the data given in the first example of Lecture #12
Handout to compute production rate, manufacturing lead time, and waiting time for three values
of N: (a) N = 2. (b) N = 3 and (c) N = 4. For your convenience the question is repeated here and
the data are as below:
A FMS consists of 2 machining workstations, 1 load/unload station. Station 1 is load/unload
station. Station 2 perform milling and has 2 servers (2 identical CNC milling machines). Station
3 has one server that performs drilling. The stations are connected by a part handling system that
has 4 work carriers. The mean transport time is 3min.
The FMS produces 2 parts, A and B. The part mix fractions and routing are given below. The
operation frequency fijk = 1 for all operations.
