Weve been busy putting our social and emotional skills to work.
Here are some things were working on:

1.

Social and Emotional Development

Sharing
Putting our feelings into words
Using words rather than yelling or crying when we become
upset
Resolving conflicts when they arise
Being nice and treating others kindly

In small group today we worked on floor puzzles. Each child was

partnered up and given a puzzle to complete. The partners worked
together to problem solve and get their puzzle pieced together. Lots
of language and communication was used to put together ideas and
strategies to get the puzzles completed.

1. Same & Different Game:

In our groups we played the same and different game. The teacher
picked 2-3 children to stand up at a time while the rest of the children
worked to find things that were the same with the children standing
and things that were different. Some examples of our findings were
theyre all girls, theyre all wearing striped shirts, two have
blonde hair and one has brown hair, theyre all the same size, two
have black pants and one has jeans.

After reading the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, children helped
the letters back up the tree. They used letter stickers to stick to their
tree. As children were adding the letters to their trees, they were
encouraged to share with the friends at the table the name of the
letter that they were working on, and the sound that the letter makes,
if they knew it!

Categories: an outdoor game

All the children line up side by side except the player who is
the caller.
The caller stands at a distance from the lined up players
The caller then calls off different categories (ex. Everyone
wearing red or if your birthday is in June, etc.)
If the childrens category is called, they must run to the other
side as fast as they can
Whoever arrives last is out for that round
The last player in becomes the new caller and the game
starts over

Physical: large motor, healthy behavior

Social/Emotional: cooperative play
Science: observation, classifying, drawing conclusions

Rhyme TimeAfter reading One Duck Stuck and Do Mice Eat Rice?, we
discussed what makes a rhyme. We discussed that rhymes have the
same sound, especially the same ending sound. We discussed that
words that rhyme may begin with different letters and sounds but
end with the same sound. After this discussion, we went back through
the book Do Mice Eat Rice and picked out the words that rhymed
on each page. Children also had the chance to share words that they
knew that rhyme.
