The topic of this issue

In about a third of breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, the liver is severely damaged, while
teacher Ma has found Yinchen WulingSan can be used as therapeutic treatment.
Chinese medicine describes the tongue as having a thick, wet texture; having the following characteristics:
moist, sticky, difficult to swallow. Clinically, they were studying how the chronic disease was related to these
obvious characteristics. Let's take a look at how teacher Ma thinks Yinchen WulingSan can be used.

Second chance in life

Breast cancer, and liver What is the relationship?

Although breast cancer is currently the most prevalent of solid tumor cancers, the worldwide incidence of
breast cancer is still on the rise. In the United States, one in eight women suffers from breast cancer. And we
are seeing the first female incidences of breast cancer in China.
After I came to the United States, the first few years, the clinic was mostly involved with breast cancer patients,
and then later was mostly involved with lung cancer patients. Theresa, a patient diagnosed with breast cancer
in 2003 immigrated to the United States from Hong Kong. She is very frank and outspoken. In the course of
her treatment, she has praised the clinic: Dr. Ma saved my life! And she has very patiently shared her
experience to other cancer patients.

When Theresa was diagnosed with breast cancer (Phase 3), due to chemotherapy her liver was
seriously damaged, she had severe ascites, jaundice, fatigue, weakness, nausea, and did not want to
eat.
Her pulse was weak, but well established. The surface of her tongue had a sticky yellow coating, and beneath
it groups of blood vessels [were visible]. I saw in her eyes mild jaundice and a bright orange color. Her liver
and gallbladder were diagnosed with blocked energy, a symptom of yellow fever; associated with declining
health of the [organs in the] stomach are severe ascites, fatigue, weakness, loss of appetite, and the moisture
was likely not caused by cloudy water.
For the principle treatment, I consider first of all, repairing the liver function. The first thing to fix is the yellow
fever, by clearing the blocked energy from chemotherapy drugs which causes the liver and gallbladder
disease; while the spleen and Water Method is used for cloudy water, I decided to use the Yinchen WulingSan
based method.

I was in the clinic next El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, while the patient live in Oakland, an hour
away from the clinic by car. In 2007 I moved to the current address, also a distance of 40 minutes. For
almost a decade since then, she is the first patient waiting every Saturday morning at 8:30. This is
something!

Saying that Theresa received acupuncture treatment, go back to start taking him for the medical. A
week later her referral, can relieve bloating feeling, spirit better, eating increased.
With the same prescription ingredients, and dosages appropriately modified, she continued the treatment for a
month, with no symptoms of jaundice, and the ascites reduced by half. One month after she was basically free
of ascites, I changed to the "Kang shuttle" oral medicine therapy, and topical Chinese medicine. Laboratory
tests indicated liver function had returned to normal.
During her cancer chemotherapy, her mother from Hong Kong came see her, to see her condition worsen.
Due to her visa expiring, she had to go back, thinking she would never see her daughter again in this life.
Unexpectedly, six months later, the whole family was happy to see her daughter return to Hong Kong. Around
2010, before Ma said that she had recovered she found her mother was also suffering from advanced cancer,
dying. Theresa is working at the University of California until her retirement in 2013, and her husband is going
to move back to Hong Kong. My oldest daughter is studying at the University of Hong Kong, who also received
a deal of attention like Theresa.
I am just writing to you that Caesar the care physician asked me (most of the time I only have a brief time
to write my point in this journal), why I take the prescribed traditional Chinese medicine to cleanse myself,
like the spiritual people; where I was not allowed to eat, my [tongue] caused to thicken, made to feel
uncomfortable, and caused not to form stools. I explained to her, Chinese medicine describes the tongue
as having a thick, wet texture; having the following characteristics: moist, sticky, difficult to swallow.
Clinically, they were studying how the chronic disease was related to these obvious characteristics.
[2]

Back to Theresa. For more than nine years, her tongue has been yellow greasy to go yellow greasy,
yellow and greasy reduce her to a lot of discomfort, yellow greasy aggravating she is not comfortable.
He was very deeply impressed. Fortunately, for the first ten years, her tongue was remained thin. Her body,
kept in good condition.

Now let's analyze the prescribed decoction:

Yin Chen Wu Ling San is found in Zhongjing's "Golden Chamber." Wulingsan is mentioned in Zhongjing's
"Treatise on Cold-Induced Diseases", providing a treatment for disorders regarding impaired water absorption.
Internally impaired water absorption can be described, firstly as excess moisture accumulating in the body, and
secondly as abnormal fluid removal. Moisture accumulated in the abdomen can lead to stomach digestive
dysfunction, ranging from re-appearing ascites; wet streamer to the lower limbs, edema. Normally, problems
with moisture occur through the spleen, kidney, lung regulator, Pifei kidney function cannot find the moisture
will cause retention problems to occur in the normal metabolic pathways. So the water can affect:
the lungs causing phlegm, cough, or even pleural effusion;
the spleen causing loose stools thin, Lulu bowel, stomach water, even ascites;
the kidneys causing urine may be less, limb edema, ascites worse.

For the Water Treatment Method, there are two principles:

First
What are the approaches to provide a way out for the "evil" (wet)? There are four of interest by steaming:
those who strengthen the spleen and stomach function;
Lee who Lee urine;
those who materialistic urinate, pass stool;
those who cause steaming by sweat.
Second
We next discuss "Onyang", because there must be a yang mixture that can provide enough warmth to
dissipate the negative pathological products are associated with wetness.
Poria, Polyporus, Alisma diuresis in Wulingsan is so wet, it is processed as urine and released; Poria may
cause wetness to change composition in the spleen; Guizhi (as the case may be with cinnamon) can warm the
bladder to promote moisture dissipation, but may also cause a portion to evaporate from the skin.
During one of my lectures, a student asked the teacher, the prescription was named too hastily; why it is called
"Wuling" mixture, yet there are only two "Ling" (Poria, Polyporus)?
He had a very interesting question, so I said, the reason for five is that prescription drugs have five ingredients;

[3]

the role of "Ling" stresses dampness, because it is necessary to urinate, but it is also important for
the spleen;
the role of Polyporus emphasizes diuretic function (for example, there is Alisma in the prescription);
while the role of Polyporus Yin Sheng Jin is a supplement to address excessive diuretic caused by
injured Yin-chun;
As mentioned, Alisma helps Erling Lee urine;
Guizhi, warms the bladder, warms the stomach, warms the heart, warm the lungs, and plays a
helpful Erling alisma diuresis to help the spleen and stomach, promote a strong heartbeat and
promote transpiration of moisture in the lungs. It reduces pressure caused by moisture in the
spleen, lungs, kidney and other organs.
Therefore, Wulingsan encompasses two basic principles of wet treatment, and it is an important fundamental
aspect of water absorption disorders.
When the heat stores wetness, it is hot and humid, and
Yin Chen Qingli also addresses hot and humid, but through the effect of diuresis, while at the same time
causing capillaris to retreat, by clearing heat except jaundice main drug. With the outbreak of jaundice,
hepatobiliary dysfunction is caused by the release of hot and humid storage. Treating the capillaris is just
clearing dampness from the liver and gallbladder. Therefore, Wulingsan is used mainly for "wet", wormwood is
used mainly for "hot", but for the most symptomatic problems Yin Chen Wu Ling San addresses hot storage for
cloudy water. It can be used clinically even without jaundice, as long as a thick yellow coating on the tongue,
ascites or edema is present.
With the Yinchen Wulingsan method, I used:
Poria, Poria skin (the effect of strengthening the Water);
plus to help the spleen and stomach, Dafu Pi, the child (that is betel nut), dried tangerine peel can be
eaten as an appetizer to eliminate swelling;
Ugly black and white, also known as cows son, cows son looks gray and black is called black ugly, ugly
looks yellowish white, said the role is the same, is to play four wet treatment principle of "technology,
Lee, by evaporation" of "by" role , get rid of strong drink water, both strong diuretic Xie stool;
General dry, you may not be familiar with this term, but you may be familiar with another name:
crickets. Aren't crickets known to fight, to be brave, like a general, daring to dare? They have a strong
diuretic effect, while also playing a role to soften Jian, softened water can reduce the size of the wet
body, stones, tumors.
Lastly, silkworm excrement, plays a hepatic role to help the liver excrete moisture; in the past I have
treat ascites, jaundice, often combining it with wormwood to help drain the moisture from the spleen
and stomach.
Concord stomach Wang this medicine stems from the Soviet Union,
Sweet, orange peel, Lu Codonopsis, fried Atractylodes, Poria, licorice, woody, Amomum, French
Pinellia extract production, can be eaten as appetizers to help the spleen and stomach.
Obviously, with the Yinchen WulingSan method, the potency must be doubled with these ingredients.
