Regret about situations that happened or didnt happened in the past.
If + + Past Perfect + C, + would + Present perfect
If you hadn`t been (not / be) late, we wouldn`t have missed (not / miss) the bus.
If she had studied (study), she would have passed (pass) the exam.
If they had gone (go) to bed early, they wouldn`t have woken (not / wake) up late.
If she had gone (go) to art school, she would have become (become) a painter.
If I had been (be) born in a different country, I would have learnt (learn) to speak a
different language.

Past Perfect (we use this one when we regret for something that did or didn`t happened in
the past)
Wish + Past Perfect (had + Past Participle)
Examples:
I wish I was / were rich. I would buy a farm and enjoy the calm of the countryside.
They had that bad accident because they were careless. If only they had been more
careful.
We saw the film. I wish you had seen it with us. It was an amazing evening.
I like traveling around the world. If only I had time to realize my dream.
Alice didn't get a good grade. She wishes she (work) had worked harder
Tom likes football very much. He wishes he (become) became a professional football
player.
He was running very fast when he had a heart attack. If only he (not/run) hadn't
run so fast.
She's keen on computers. She wishes she (study) studied computer science next
school year.
I am sorry I dont know how to use the computer. If only I (know) knew how to use it.
I stayed late at work and missed the last bus. I wish I (stay) had not stayed at work
late.
