Purpose:
To know how animals
move through
heterogeneous
environments.
Understanding the
ecological functions
animals fulfill in each
habitat and their
responses to
environmental change.
To understand the
life history and ecology of
a species and ultimately
to predict its response to
environmental change,
home range, movements
and habitat selection must
be known.

Materials:
sixty-eight female salmon sharks
satellite telemetry
hook and lines
satellite tags

Results:
Salmon sharks migrated between subarctic
for- aging grounds and subtropical destinations
from 168W to the North American continental
shelf.
Sharks showed strong correlations with chl
a and PP, but weak correlations with SST and
SSH.

Background:
Ocean has strong
regional impacts to animals.
ARS behavior could be
foraging, mating, parturition
or selection of environment.
By combining measurements
of both be- havior and the
environment we may gain
clues to the ecology of
organisms that cannot be
directly observed

Methods:
They captured the shark using
hook and line.
They attach satellite tags to dorsal
fins.
They use the Argos tracking and
environmental monitoring system to
classify the sharks position on a 7RS can be measured

The salmon shark is in provided)
the family Lamnidae, which
occurs throughout the polar,
temperate and tropical
oceans

Discussion:
Sharks migrate in a long distance because
they have specific requirements for breeding
and parturition, in areas that are distant from
their foraging grounds
Salmon sharks appear to give birth during
their southern migration in late spring-early
summer,
Salmon shark behavior is mediated by the
productivity of ecoregions.
Salmon sharks spend the most time in the
Coastal Alaska Downwelling region, which
experiences down- welling and turbulent mixing,
has strong seasonality of light, temperature and
chl a and the highest PP of any ecoregion in the
eastern North Pacific

Strengths:
There were a lot of detail and research information included in this journal which is very useful for the reader. This journal also refers to
specific websites and sources which could help others find the information they needed easily. It also contains a lot of pictures and graph
which help people see specific data and help people visualize the experiment easier.
Flaws:
There are too many details which it makes it difficult to find what the readers are looking more. Also, the vocabularies are too hard and
there were many scientific terms which should be defined more. They might spoke too much about too many specific details rather than
briefly telling the reader what they intended the reader to acknowledge.
Suggestion:
The author should be straight on the main point of each part rather than telling small things that might confuse the reader. Furthermore, the
author might include easier terms or define the scientific terms to help readers without a lot of knowledge understand this journal. In
additions, the author should use less abbreviation because it causes a lot of distraction to the reader to find the full term of the word. The
author might consider adding more photos and descriptions to the photos since photos help the reader a lot to understand specific data.
