Assignment includes individual assignment and group assignment.

There are slightly

difference about individual assignment and group assignment. Individual assignment is one persons
work whereas group assignment required students to discuss and collaborate with others to complete
the assignment. Whether studying in local or overseas, school authorities always encourage students
to fulfill their assignment in order to help them to score final examination easily. Even though group
assignment can give more benefits to students, it should not be included as part of a university English
course due to two reasons are stress of workload and cause the quarrel between students and students.
First and foremost, one of the significant reasons why group assignment should not be
included is the tremendous stress caused by the workload. Some of the students will feel tension
because they want to get ready for their midterm test as well as their group assignment in the same
time. Moreover, sometimes students are very anxious about their performance when doing their group
presentation. It is because some students have not strong English foundation and they will feel
depressed while comparing to other students who have higher proficiency level in the language.
Therefore, they are worried that they will influence the marks of the other group mate.
Another reason to be considered is to reduce the case of quarrel between students and students
about the division of assignment workload. Sometimes, students will feel unfair about their division
of assignment which is distributed by group leader. Therefore, students always think that they are
doing more than others. Furthermore, students may meet some 'sleeping partner' inside their group.
Therefore, some of the students will inform their teacher about their group mates attitude and that
students will be kicked by tutor out of their group.
There are those who may argue that group assignment should be included as part of a
university English course which is to reduce the rate of failure of the subject. It is because it can be
more helpful to assist weak student pass the subjects. However, upon closer consideration, it becomes
clear that abolishing the group assignment in English course can brings more advantage to students
which is giving students to learn more knowledge. It is because students who are doing their own
individual assignment that can let them to learn more knowledge than group assignment.
In conclusion, group assignment should not be turned to a part of English Course. Even
though group assignment is an academic course work, it has to bring more disadvantages to students
which is make students to feel tremendous pressure and quarrel or verbal fighting of the division of
workload. On the other hand, students should be more focus on individual assignment. It is because
students can comprehend and learn more about knowledge and information from the assignment.
