DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION:

Our second to the last fieldwork is entitled Determination of

the area of a rectilinear whose corners are sideshot from
traverse stations as horizontal control. And the objectives of
this field work are to acquire the knowledge in getting the area if
a rectilinear field whose corners are sideshot from traverse stations
of a horizontal control, to learn how to read the horizontal angel of
a transit, to learn how to perform a closed azimuth traverse survey
using transit and tape, to develop the skills in analyzing of the area
using DMD or DPD method, and to develop the ability to lead or
follow the designated/desired task of ones party or group and to be
fully responsible in the performance of the assigned task. First
thing we did is we put a set 5 meter set back from Lyceums
building so we can have a parallel line from the building, then we
put 3 marks, 2 marks in both corners and one in the middle. Then
we put the total station in between the points to get the data that we
needed. We did this process for all of the sides of the building. By
doing this process we were able to get the area of the building.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT:
Thank you to all my group mates who always cooperate even
though the task is hard and the weather is hot and for always trying
to help each other and for being patient in finishing the task even
though we are always the last one to finish the field work. Thank
you to the lab assistants who always let us borrow the instruments
that we need. Thank you also to sir Cervantes for teaching us what
we need to learn and for guiding us on what to do in our field
work.

FIELD WORK NO. 11

DETERMINATION OF THE AREA OF A FIELD WHOSE CORNERS
ARE SIDESHOT FROM TRAVERSE STATION
OBJECTIVES:
1. To acquire the knowledge in getting the area of a rectilinear field whose
corners are side shot from traverse stations of a horizontal control.
2. To learn how to read the horizontal angle of a transit.
3. To learn how to perform a closed azimuth traverse survey using transit
and tape.
4. To develop the skills in analyzing of the area using DMD and DPD
method.
5. To develop the ability to lead or follow the designated/desired task of
ones party or group and to be fully responsible in the performance of the
assigned task.
INSTRUMENTS:
1. Total station
2. Tape
3. Chalk/1-set of marking pins
4. Reflector Prism
PROCEDURE:
Determination of the area of a rectilinear whose corners are sideshot
from traverse stations as horizontal control
1. The professor assigned the corners of the rectilinear field to be observed.
These points may not be visible from each adjacent point but must be
accessible from traverse station. Drive on each corner hubs or mark each
corner by a chalk if on pavement. Name the points as stations 1, 2, 3 etc.
2. Establish traverse stations near the corners of the lot taking into
consideration that:
a. Intervisibility of stations is observed.
b. Adjacent lot corners could be side shot from a single traverse station.
c. No side shot distance exceed 15m.
3. Occupy station T-1, orient the telescope to the magnetic south pole with

Vernier. A reading zeros on the horizontal circle, and run the traverse of the
stations clockwise.
4. Shoot the corners of the lot from the nearest stations and measure the
corresponding distance.
5. Check the traverse for angular error of closure (AEC). Re-run the traverse
if the actual AEC is not within the allowable accuracy requirement.
6. Calculate the area of the lot by DMD or DPD method.
7. Plot the lot by coordinates method on a 30 x40 tracing paper.

According to the procedures, we should get the bearing, azimuth and also
the length of each side of the LPU campus. To determine such things, we
used the total station for convenience in order to complete the data easily
and accurately. We did side shots to determine the length by using Cosine
law. But first, we made sure that our parallel lines are straight to lessen our
error in this field work.
Total station
This command, designed for total stations and manual entry. It is the
principle data collection routine with total stations. Sideshot/Traverse
interacts with numerous settings, including the feature codes that will draw
line work. All settings in Configure Reading will impact Sideshot/Traverse,
including the Number of Distance Readings, Average Direct & Reverse,
Hgt/Desc Prompt on Save, Angle Only in Reverse Face and Function of
Enter Key.
Foresights
The Foresight Screens are entered automatically after exiting the Take
Backsight screen. The Foresight Screen is also entered quickly, after
selecting Sideshot/Traverse from the main menu, if you press Enter or OK in
the Backsight Point screen. When you choose Sideshot/Traverse, you are
always given the option to accept the default backsight orientation and go
straight to your foresights. There are 2 major types of Foresight Screens: (1)
Standard Total Station, (2) Robotic Total Station. The GPS screen is
discussed under the Store Points chapter.

In the field work we have done, we observed that using lines parallel to the
building is really necessary. We managed to create parallel lines in order to
get the total length of each side using side shots and the cosine law. Using
the total station is very convenient to use in gathering all the data we needed,
since it can record the azimuth and length of the given segment of a line. In
this field work, we were able to practice our skills to determine the bearing
and area of a lot. We were also able to exercise our skills to correct the data
by using transit or compass rule.
