Our Home Assignment year has been off to a really good start
with a few adventures thrown in. As some of you followed on
Facebook, the car we had originally purchased for using this year had
to be replaced. The engine ended up overheating while going up a
notorious, large hill. The problem ended up being the head gasket,
but we did not have confidence that replacing it would make the car
reliable for the rest of the year. So after much deliberation and advice,
we finally decided to get another car, and the new one seems to be
significantly better. We are thankful!

Another, and much happier, adventure was while visiting family in

New York City. We knew that we could only spend a few hours there,
so with some trepidation, we ignored the advice we had been given to
ride the bus from Newark into NYC, and drove our car into the city.
As we were heading in, we prayed for the ability to find a parking
spot, and then threw in the request for it to be free too. Well
because it was the end of the Labor Day weekend and their was the
threat of the looming tropical storm, the streets were practically
deserted in Manhattan. Driving in and parking ended up being a
breeze. It got even better when we discovered that for the holiday, all
of the street parking was free! Praise God for the little miracles!

HMA is a challenging year in that home takes on a new definition.

Home becomes where you are sleeping that night instead of the much
deeper meaning that word home normally has. However, it is a
good reminder that this world is not our home, but rather heaven will
be our true and eternal home. We were also so thankful to stay in so
many of your homes as we traveled. Thank You!
We have the privilege to be out of our comfort zones and in
circumstances where we are more sensitive and attentive to the
workings of the Lord in our everyday lives. We are on a faith journey.
We are watching Him provide for our needs, work in meetings with
people and situations. We are trusting Him to provide for what we
need to continue serving Him at Black Forest Academy, returning in
July of 2017. He equips the called - and we believe He will do that.
We are seeing evidence of that. It is exciting!

Local Culture
Josh and I are continuing to
work on our German language
skills while we are in the states
this year with a free computer
program called DuoLingo.
Just to give you a few words:
gut = good
schlecht = bad
schwer = heavy, difficult
leicht = light, easy
Herbst = autumn

Joshs Highlight
My highlight really has just been
reconnecting with people. It has
been great getting to spend some
time with family, and even some
extended family, but also friends
and people I havent had the
opportunity to see or connect with
since college or even High School.
The best part is even when we get
to see God directing things
behind the scenes to orchestrate
meetings and/or how they happen.

Katies Highlight

It has been fun to meet up with

people, some whom I have not seen
for close to twenty years.

It has been great to see what

friends are up to, what their lives
look like and how the Lord is using
them, and has planted them right
where they are to be a light.

We have been able to make some

new friends. Some in meetings and
some seemingly randomly.
Some who need Jesus and some
who already know Him.
Thankful for new friends!
Praying to be a light!

Circle of Friends

We are blessed with many and

we are glad to have the opportunity
to visit with so many of you this year!
We are trying to see as many of you as
we can in personcatch up with your
lives and share ours.
Please reach out if you would like
to get together and we dont
have a time set yet.
