Introduction

HydroBat is a wide coverage multibeam echosounder capable of generating IHO Special order compliant data over a
wide 120 swath to water depths in excess of 100m. The system is highly integrated, compact and designed for
either permanent or temporary installation on a wide variety of vessels.

Configuration

HydroBat is a compact multibeam echosounder offered as HydroBat BASIC - a stand-alone system or as a

COMPOSITE configuration with a full sensor package. The basic system consists of a moulded transducer with
integrated 10m cable, a Sonar Processor with PDS2000 software, a keyboard, monitor & mouse. The system is
delivered in a wooden crate.

Hardware

There is currently only one hardware configuration described below.

Transducer
The transducer is a moulded, sealed unit with no access for repair or maintenance. The yellow shell provides
protection and has an arrow moulded indicating the orientation towards the vessel bow. The transducer cable is
moulded into the assembly and is 10m in length. It is terminated in coloured RJ45 connectors and a transmit
connector which interface to the Sonar Processor.

Sonar Processor
The Sonar processor is a 19 rack mount chassis which contains transmit & receive electronics, power supply and a
PC.

Peripherals
Standard PC peripherals (keyboard, mouse, monitor) are supplied with the system.

Software

The system is supplied with a RESON modified version of Windows XP professional installed. In addition, PDS2000
application software is also installed. The software applications are pre-configured for normal operation and should
require no user intervention.

PDS2000
HydroBat is supplied with PDS2000 Version 62 Multibeam Survey. This provides for system configuration, data
collection & display
Version 60 is available as an option (replaces V062). This version adds offline data processing functionality
Version 90 is available as an option (replaces V062). This version adds CUBE data processing functionality.
When purchased as HydroBat Composite, PDS2000 Version 60 is included in place of version 062.

Motion
Motion data is provided by the IMU sensor. The unit consist of a sensor housing rated to 30m depth which is fixed to
the HydroBat mounting bracket using the 3 x M6 tapped holes. A 10m cable connects the sensor to a junction box
which accepts power and provides data input/output.

Position, heading & time are all supplied from a Trimble SPS461 unit. This device is a modular, dualantenna system for marine construction and hydrographic survey. The SPS461 supports MSK Beacon and
OmniSTAR VBS corrections and is available with internal 450 or 900MHz radios and is upgradable to
precision RTK. The SPS461 provides precise GPS Heading and is supplied with 15m antenna cables, two
antennae and a power/data cable.

Sound velocity
The RESON SVP 71 sound velocity probe is developed for fixed-mount installation on surface ships,
outboard rigs, submarines, AUVs, ROVs and other self-propelled platforms. The SVP 71 uses the latest
electronic technology combined with an innovative mechanical design to yield a compact, robust, yet very
flexible product.
The SVP 71 uses a direct path echosounding technique that instantly compensates for temperature and
pressure with internal sensors. The SVP 71 comes in a water resistant case including brackets for mounting,
a 10m cable, bolts, and a user manual with system description.

Mounting bracket
The HydroBat mounting bracket is a stainless steel construction to accept the HydroBat transducer, SVP-71 sound
velocity probe and the motion sensor. A standard flange provides a convenient interface to a pole or hull mount
foundation.

Conclusion

HydroBat is a compact entry-level multibeam system capable of providing high quality data which exceeds
international standards. the system is available in two configurations, basic & composite which provides the user
with flexibility to use existing sensors or an integrated package.

Use of alternative sensors

RESON recommend the use of the proposed integrated sensor package and will only guarantee performance when
used with these sensors. However, should customers wish to use alternative sensors the recommended minimum
specifications are:
