SPEAKER 2:

WORLD PERSPECTIVE IN CLEAN ENERGY

CLEAN ENERGY IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES

RATIONALE FOR CLEAN ENERGY
CLEAN ENERGY IN INDIA
TOP 10 COUNTRIES THAT ARE RAMPING UP CLEAN ENERGY

CLEAN ENERGY IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES:

Most developing countries have abundant clean energy including solar ,windpower,
geothermal energy & biomass.
By developing such energy sources developing countries can reduce their
dependence on oil and natural gas that are less exposed to PRICE RISE.
And in many circumstances, these investments can be less expensive than fossil fuel
energy systems.
In isolated rural areas, electricity grid are often not economical, but by clean energy
that provide a sustainable & cost effective solutions.
Developing countries have more than half of global renewable power capacity.
China and India are rapidly expanding markets in these areas.
BRAZIL Produces most of sugar derived ethonal has been adding new biomass &
wind power pants.
Many countries are growing at rapid rates in countries such as argentina, costa rica,
Egypt, Kenya, Thailand.
Approx. 1.3 Billion people around the world who dont access to grid electricity.Even
though they are poor these people have to pay far more for lighting than people in
rich countries because they use inefficient kerosene lamps.
Solar power cost half as much as these kerosene lamps.
An estimated 3 million households get power from solar systems.

Some facts:
1. Kenya is world leader in number of solar power systems installed.
2. More than 30,000 small solar panels were installed annually each producing 12
to 30 watt.
3. Kenya was first African country to use geothermal power & still largest capacity
4. India was first country in the world to setup ministry of non-conventional energy
resources in early 1980.

RATIONALE FOR CLEAN ENERGY:

1. In 2009, 1.4 million people lived without electricity 2.7 billion dependent on wood,
charcoal this lack access to modern energy technology limits income generation and
contributes to deforestation & climate change.
2. Distributed energy from fossil fuels can be difficult & expensive thereby producing
clean energy locally can offer a good alternative.
3. Interest towards clear energy has increased in recent years due to environment
concern like global warming and air pollution that reduces cist & providing efficiency
and reliability.

CLEAN ENERGY IN INDIA:

Clean energy in india comes under Ministry of new & renewable energy (MNRE).
In india 63% of power came from wind, while solar contributed nearly 16%.
Large hydroinstalled capacity was 42.78 GW as of 30 APRIL 2016 and is separated by
ministry of power and not comes under MNRE.
MNRE targets have been upscaled to grow under 4 GW in April 2016 to 175 gw by
year 2022.
The ambitious targets would see india quickly becoming one of leading green energy
producer in world & even surpassing many developed countries.
India government tends to achieve 40% electric power capacity from these sources
by 2030.

WIND POWER
Development begans in 1990s and is increasing in last few years. These are largest wind
farms in india.
SOLAR POWER
As all we know, India is densely populated so much of part of country doesnt have
electricity grid so one of first application of solar power.
Some of large projects have been proposed and 35,000 km2 area of thar desert has been set
for solar power projects generating upto 2100 GW.

SOME RECENT ANNOUNCEMENT

1) SOLAR ENERGY ALLIANCE AT COP21 : UNITED NATIONS CLIMATE CHANGE
CONFERENCE 21ST SESSION OF CONFERENCE OF PARTIES.
2) Is a global initiative to accelerate clean energy innovations to address climate
change, make clean energy affordable for consumers & to create green jobs and
oppurtunties.
3) Announced on 30 nov, 2015 with president French hollande and Hon. Prime minister
of india Narender modi.
4) At launch 120 countries committed to double their respective clean energy over
period of 5 years to 20 years.

HON. PRIME MINISTER NARENDER MODI SAID THAT

THE SUN IS THE SOURCE OF ALL ENERGY. THE WORLD MUST TURN TO SOLAR POWER OF
OUR FUTURE
