Overview of installing FCOA
2 Overview of installing FCOA

Purpose
This is an overview of how to install Nokia Flexi Cabinet for Outdoor

(FCOA).
Before you start
Check that you have the needed installation tools available. See Appendix
Installation tools and torque values.
Warning
If performing installation or maintenance procedures on a BTS,

make sure that all transmitters in the area are switched off.
Warning
The antenna generates electromagnetic fields at radio

frequencies. Do not cross the compliance boundary.
Steps
1. Check that the site meets the installation requirements.
For more information, see Requirements for Installation and

Operation.
2. Locate the site pack in the bottom right corner of the cabinet.
3. Remove the cabinet roof, if needed.
4. If required, lift the cabinet to the installation location.

5. Change the door opening direction, if needed.
6. Anchor the cabinet on the base.
7. Install the security lock, if needed.
8. Prepare the cabinet cable entries.
9. Route the grounding cable and ground the cabinet.

Purpose
The cabinet roof is removed for the following tasks:
. lifting the cabinet,

. routing the cabinet external cabling through the roof,
. installing the air filter,
. changing the door handedness, or
.
installing auxiliary boxes (FSEB, FSEC, LMU)

Lifting the FCOA
4 Lifting the FCOA

Purpose
Follow these instructions when the cabinet must be lifted to the desired
installation location.
An empty cabinet weighs max. 80 kg (176.3 lbs). It can be lifted by a

sufficient number of personnel using the lifting handles (WLHA lifting
handle kit 469554A). Lifting eye bolts are not included in the cabinet
delivery. They can be ordered separately (466289A).
The cabinet can also be lifted when fully equipped. Because of the weight
of the cabinet, it must be lifted with a crane.

Warning
The cabinets are heavy. Additional personnel or lifting equipment

may be needed when the cabinets are moved, unpacked, or lined
up. In addition, follow any local regulations applicable to the
installation.
Steps
1. Remove the cabinet roof.
2. Attach the 4 x M12 lifting eye bolts to the attachment points.

3. Attach the hoisting belt or rope to the lifting eye bolts.
Make sure that the hoisting belt or rope loop is min.1500 mm (59.1
in.) high to avoid bending the equipment.
Caution
A fully equipped cabinet is heavy. Make sure that the hoisting belt or
rope is sufficiently strong.
4. Lift the cabinet carefully to the desired installation location.
5. Mount the cabinet.
6. Remove the lifting equipment.
7. Install the roof.

5 Installing the cabinet
5.1 Anchoring the FCOA

Purpose
The cabinet must be anchored to the base if there is any risk of it toppling
in areas with an earthquake risk, for example.
Before you start
The site is prepared and ready.
When raining, some water may enter the cabinet through the door and
back wall. It is important that the water can exit via the holes on the cabinet
floor. If the cabinet is exposed to rain, it must be installed at least 20...50
mm off the ground by using, for example, an I-beam rail, metal grating or
C-bars.
The recommended anchor bolt size is M12 x 60 mm. The bolts are not
included in the delivery.

Purpose
The door opening direction can be changed.
Tip
If the cabinet installation location has limited space, change the door
handedness before taking the cabinet to the location.
Caution
Standing on the door may cause the door to buckle. Do not climb on the
cabinet door to access the roof.

An optional customer-specific lock can be installed on the cabinet door to

prevent unauthorised personnel from accessing the cabinet. The lock

handedness of the cabinet door.

1. Remove the cover plate from the lead-through you are going to
use.

There are three possible lead-throughs on top of the cabinet: one on

each side, and one in the back.
If you are using the lead-through in the back of the cabinet, first
remove the rubber lead-ins on the inside of the cabinet to uncover
the cable entry screws.
2. Place the lower half of the cable entry on the lead-through and
fix with screws.
3. Route the cables in the cabinet.
Power cables must be routed through cable clamps to reduce strain

on the cables. Cable clamps and screws are included in the site
pack.
4. Fix the power cables with cable clamps.
5. Fix the other cables with cable ties.
6. Place the upper half of the cable entry on top of the lower one,
fixing the cables to their places.

3. Strip approx. 2 cm (0.79 in.) of the main ground cable.
4. Insert the stripped end of the cable into a cable shoe lug and
crimp.

M8 is recommended for main grounding.

8 Installing optional items
8.1 Installing air filter

Purpose
The optional FCFA delivery (air filter and wind plate) can be used when the
environmental conditions require it.
Before you start
Remove the cabinet roof.
Remove the site bag on the top left corner of the air filter.
When unpacking the FCFA delivery, push the air filter back panel
horizontally until it no longer moves freely. Then lift the plate upwards
keeping it level.
Tip
It is recommended that the cabling be routed to the side or bottom when

the air filter is used. If the air filter is installed in an equipped cabinet, the
cables are routed in the rear and antenna jumper cables must be
disconnected.
There are two options for connecting power to the air filter:
. Connect the power cable (995083) to a power port on either the

System Module (ESMA) or System Extension Module (ESEA).
. Connect the power cable (995260) to the System Module power
input bolts.

8.2 Installing battery backup and site support solutions

for FCOA
8.2.1 Overview of battery backup and site support solution for FCOA
The optional site support module (FCSA) is used with the outdoor cabinet
to provide long-term battery back-up for the Flexi EDGE BTS. It also
provides IP55-protected space for 3rd party 19” Line Terminating
Equipment (LTE) units.
The FCSA is installed in the FCOA along with batteries and a Power
Distribution Unit (WPUB or WPUC). The PDU converts AC power into DC
power, which is then used by the BTS. Alarms routed from the battery
backup solution can be routed to the System Module, FSEB or other
external alarm box.
The FCSA can also be used without battery backup to provide power and
IP55 protection for 3rd party LTE units. In this scenario, an FSEC must be
installed on the FCOA roof to provide power to the FCSA.
The following HW is required for the FCOA battery backup and site
support solution:

disassembled.

8.2.4 Installing PDU and site support module
Purpose
The optional site support module (FCSA) can be used with the outdoor
cabinet to provide long-term battery back-up time for the Flexi EDGE BTS,
and a space for installing LTE units. The MIBBU (WPUB or WPUC) is
utilised when a site support module is used. The MIBBU (WPUB or
WBUC) converts the AC power into DC power, which the base station
uses.

Tip
With Flexi Cabinet Site Support Module (FCSA) version 103, it is

possible to have a Flexi Rectifier Module 6000 (FRMA) installed. In that
case, uninstall the AC interface support part from inside the FCSA by
removing the two screws prior to FRMA installation.

8.2.5 Installing rectifier units (WPMB/WPMC)
Purpose
The PDU provides four slots for rectifiers. Each of the PDU versions
(WPUB/WPUC) has its own rectifier unit: WPMB/WPMC. Install the
rectifier units as described in these instructions.
Before you start
Remove the dummy panels from the PDU.

Steps
1. Install the rectifier units.
Install the rectifier units in their places. Note that if the rectifier is the
type that has the retaining hooks (WPMB), the hooks must be in an
open position before fixing the unit in place. Use a small screwdriver
in the holes in the upper left- and right-hand corners of the unit to
release the hooks.

When the unit is in place, tighten the knurled-head fixing screw or

insert the retaining hooks in their slots, depending on the unit type
used.
Caution
The retaining hooks are fragile. Do not carry the unit by the retaining
hooks.

Turn the breakers on the PDU front panel into the ON position.
Warning
Risk of electric shock. Do not switch on the breakers before the

base transceiver station (BTS) installation is complete.
4. Close the lid.

8.2.6 Installing site support module without battery backup
Before you start

provide an IP55-protected environment for 3rd party Line Terminating
Equipment (LTE) units.
The FSEC is required to provide power to the FCSA. For FSEC installation
instructions, see Installing optional items.
The rack must be disassembled before installing the FCSA. Open the
FCSA and take out the installation parts before you begin.

8.2.7 Installing 3rd party LTE units in the site support module
Before you start
The FCSA has 4U of 19 in. (48,26 cm) rack space for 3rd party Line
Terminating Equipment (LTE) units. The installation requirements for 3rd
party LTE units are:
. All equipment must be mounted to the 19 in. (48,26 cm) rack

. Maximum depth of LTE equipment behind is 400 mm (15,75 In)
. Alarms:
. one default LTE power malfunction alarm from FCSA (one
alarm line is used for all power lines)
. Power distribution provides five fused 48V DC lines:
.
one 10 amp
. four 3.15 amp
.
Power cables and connectors (female Phoenix) are not provided in
the Flexi EDGE BTS delivery and must be sourced locally or
prepared at the site.
Steps
1. Fix four cage nuts to the 1 in. rack in the FCSA.
2. Fix the LTE unit on the rack with four M5 screws.
3. Connect one end of the power cable to one of the 48V Out
connectors on the FCSA control card and the other end to the
power connector on the LTE unit.
4. Complete the LTE unit installation using the manufacturer's

instructions.

8.2.8 Connecting battery backup and site support alarms in FCOA
Before you start
The battery backup and site support alarms for FCOA are “plug and play”.
No configuration is required if the default alarm configurations are used.
Alarms for the Power Distribution Unit (WPUB or WPUC) can either be
routed to the FSEB or other external alarm box through the FCSA control
card or routed directly to the System Module (ESMA) using the optional
Flexi Alarm Battery Cable (EBCA). Alarms for the FCSA fans and LTE
units are routed from the FCSA control card to the external alarm box.
There are two possible alarm cabling configurations with the Flexi EDGE
FCOA battery solution:
. With EBCA cable (provides 10 default alarms). See the following

figure for Flexi EDGE FCOA battery backup and site support alarm
cabling with EBCA.

Using the EBCA cable provides three additional PDU alarms and it frees
space for three extra alarm lines on the external alarm box because the
PDU alarms are connected to the System Module. Note that the FCSA
control card alarms (fans, LTE power, and so on) still need to be routed to
the external alarm box when an EBCA cable is used.
If you want to change the default PDU alarm configuration, then a custom
cable is needed to connect to the FSEB or external alarm box.
The FCSA control card collects and converts alarms information from the
fans, LTE units and MIBBU. The alarms are connected to EAC lines, which
is done with the use of DIP switches on the board. The DIP switch settings
are presented in the figure and table below. If necessary, the routing of
alarms can be changed by adjusting the DIP switches.

Steps
1. If the EBCA cable is not used:

a. Connect the alarm cable from the Ext Alarms Output
connector on the FCSA control card to the external alarms
connector located in the FSEB box (if used) on the cabinet
roof.
Route the alarm cable through the cable entries on the side of
the site support module sloping downwards. Once the cable is
outside the site support module, make sure to make a proper
loop and route the cable to the cabinet roof.
b. Connect the alarm cable from the EAC connector on the PDU
to the MIBBU Alarms Input connector on the FCSA control
card.
There are three alarm lines from the MIBBU unit routed via the
control card to the FSEB If additional alarms from the MIBBU
are needed, a separate cable between the MIBBU and FSEB
is required.
2. If the EBCA cable is used:

a. Connect the EBCA cable from EAC connector on the PDU to
the FPA connector on the System Module.
b. Connect the FCSA alarm cable from the Ext Alarms Output
connector on the FCSA control card to the FSEB or other
external alarm box.

Do not connect the Mains 1-3 alarm lines on the external alarm box
because those are connected directly to the System Module with the
EBCA cable. If additional alarms from the MIBBU are needed, a
separate cable is needed between the PDU and the external alarm
box.
Route the alarm cables through the cable entries on the side of the
site support module sloping downwards. Once the cable is outside
the site support module, make a proper loop to prevent water ingress
and route the cable to the cabinet roof. Fix with cable ties.
8.2.9 Changing the alarm polarity and disabling the LTE distribution alarm
of the WPUB unit
Purpose
The EAC alarm polarity can be set to two states, Normally Open or
Normally Closed.
The Normally Open state means that the galvanic EAC alarm circuit loop is
open and electric current is not flowing through it. The corresponding EAC
alarm is activated if the EAC alarm circuit loop is closed.
The Normally Closed state means that the galvanic EAC alarm circuit loop
is closed and electric current is flowing through it. The corresponding EAC
alarm is activated if the EAC alarm circuit loop is opened.
The default alarm polarity is Normally Open. Make sure that you set the
EAC alarm polarity correspondingly during BTS commissioning.
Before you start
If changing the polarity is needed, it is recommended to do this before

installing the WPUB unit into the cabinet.
Caution
Always use an ESD wrist strap when handling units labelled with the
ESD sign. Labelled units are sensitive to electrostatic discharge.
Steps
1. Lift off the plastic cover on the backside of the WPUB unit.

2. Remove the screws that attach the cover to the unit and lift off
the cover.
Remove the four screws on the top and three uppermost screws on
each side of the unit.
Note that disabling the LTE distribution alarm does not require
removing the cover.

4. Disable the LTE distribution alarm if needed.
To disable the alarm, connect the wire between the pins 10 and 11 of
the CON41 connector.
8.2.10 Changing the alarm polarity and disabling the LTE distribution alarm
of the WPUC unit
Before you start
There are eight galvanic isolated alarm contacts for remote supervision of
the alarms. Each alarm contact represents different alarm conditions.
Alarm relay coils are powered during normal operation. All alarm relays will
give an alarm with no AC or DC power connected to the system.

Tip
If changing the polarity and/or disabling the LTE distribution alarm is

needed, it is recommended to do this before installing the WPUC unit
into the cabinet.
Caution
Always use an ESD wrist strap when handling units labelled with the
ESD sign. Labelled units are sensitive to electrostatic discharge.
Steps
1. Loosen the fixing screw and pull out the alarm interface unit
using the handle.
2. Use JP8 for setting the alarm relays to closed on alarm or open
on alarm.
The jumper mounted between pins 1 and 2 on the jumpers (default)

means closed on alarm for the corresponding relay.
The jumper mounted between pins 2 and 3 on the jumpers means

open on alarm for the corresponding relay.
The jumper numbers correspond to the relay numbering (for

instance, JP5 to RL5).
Note that when the jumpers are mounted between pins 1 and 2, the
alarm polarity is Normally Open. When the jumpers are mounted
between pins 2 and 3, the alarm polarity is Normally Closed.

3. Disable the LTE distribution alarm if needed.
LTE distribution alarm is controlled with the jumper JP4.
As default, the alarm is active and the jumper is mounted between

pins 1 and 2. Mount the jumper between pins 2 and 3 to disable the
alarm.
4. Reinstall the alarm interface unit.
8.3 Installing fire detector

Before you start
Check that the cabinet roof has been removed. Remove the plastic cover
from the fire detector before installing it.

Steps
1. Strip the fire detector cable as needed.
2. Make the power and alarm connections.
3. Slide the notches in the fire detector back plate in the slots on
the cabinet roof.
4. Turn the fire detector in an upright position.

8.4 Taking power for additional site equipment

If 48VDC power is taken for additional site equipment, it is recommended
to purchase the FSEC box.

2 Overview of installing FCOA

This is an overview of how to install Nokia Flexi Cabinet for Outdoor

Before you start

If performing installation or maintenance procedures on a BTS,

The antenna generates electromagnetic fields at radio

1. Check that the site meets the installation requirements.

3 Removing the FCOA cabinet roof

The cabinet roof is removed for the following tasks:
