PAWS aims to provide shelter, medical care and affection to homeless, abandoned,
and unwanted animals while working to envisions a nation that respects animals, practices
responsible pet ownership, and protects wildlife. Our group decided to choose this
institution for the reason that they are one of many organizations that lacks in terms of
funds and manpower to continue their goal. It catches my attention that there are some
people inside who is willing to adopt and guarantee a home for dogs, cats and other
animals rescued from cruelty. I'm happy to witnessed how they treated every animal inside
like they are family, they give them better life and hope for the abused animals to regain
trust to people for their future pet owner. And based on what we've seen, even though
they dedicate their selves in saving the animals they still lack of persons to manage the
animal shelter.
Every stories of rescued animal touches my heart but there is one story that affects
me most. I've became curious about a dog named Mappy, a 5-year-old dog. He prefers to
be treated by a female staff inside the PAWS. Mappy is one of the victims of animal abuse,
he has a lot of scars and wound around his skin. His dark past creates a psychological
trauma to him. Mappy never let any male staff to enter his dog cage and barks to distance
those who tries to get near to him, a big impact that left by his past when he still wanders
in streets. But i felt relieved that even after what happened to him, he manages to survive.
Mappy still has his hope to continue his life after all what happened to his past owners and
experiences before he was rescued by the PAWS.
Government should strictly implement the laws concerning about the wildlife in
order to prevent the cruelty and animal abuse. Because even with all the laws, there are
still many people who violates it. Government should raise the penalty to those who do not
obey and make the law effective in all areas. Government should've give enough support
to organizations that are concerns in animal welfare like the PAWS. A government
programs to educate individuals to respects animals, practices responsible pet ownership,
and protects wildlife. Practice of making a good human-wildlife interaction may start in
home having a pet dog, in barangay community, schools, up to the whole nation working
to make guarantee a home for all the animals.
As a sophomore student of University of Santo Tomas College of Accountancy, after
we witnessed how PAWS volunteers and staffs take action to those homeless cats, dogs
and other animals that are treated and taken care of, my faith in humanity is restored. I've
realized that considering all the threats for the lives of animals, there are people who are
wholeheartedly willing to help and rescue. Even me myself can be a volunteer to save a
life. We can help our society even in a simplest way we can, it is not necessary to have a
money to help, a simple lending hand will do. We should not waste our time thinking that

one day everything will change for good, we should act now. Focus on achieving what we
want our world to be and not by blaming those who make things worse.
