Introduction
Bernoulli's principle describes the relationship between the flow velocity of a fluid and its
pressure. An increase in velocity leads to a reduction in pressure in a flowing fluid, and
vice versa. The total pressure of the fluid remains constant. Bernoulli's equation is also
known as the principle of conservation of energy of the flow.

Objectives
In this experiment, you will study the Bernoullis principle in a Venturi nozzle with six
measuring points (see Figure 1). You are required to complete the following objectives:
a) To compare the measured and calculated fluid flow velocities in the Venturi
nozzle at different points.
b) To investigate the static, total and dynamic heads distribution along the Venturi
nozzle.
c) To determine the flow coefficient at different fluid flow rates.

Tasks to be completed
WEEK 1:
Propose an acceptable methodology to fulfill the above mentioned objectives of this
experiment. You are required to vary the volumetric feed flow rate (Minimum: 3). Then,
plan your experimental work in a proposal. The lab proposal should contain the following
items:
background of experiment,
objective of experiment,
scope of experiment,
literature review on Bernoullis principle,
overall methodology,
apparatus and materials used, experimental procedures,
list of mathematical equations/correlations needed,
identification of data needed, and
expected results.
In your proposal, concise description with the assistance of charts and/or diagrams,
instead of wordy sentences, is very much encouraged. You need to include any relevant
equations and assumptions or limitations related to the experiment.
Submit and present your proposal to respective instructor before conducting the
experiment.
WEEK 2:
During lab week, carry out the proposed experiment and record the data needed. In your
lab report, you must include discussion and justification if there is the difference between
measured and calculated values. Furthermore, critically discuss your findings with
supporting literatures.
Submit your final report a week after conducting the experiment.
