My Reflection:
I struggled the most with coming up with a way to analyze how students know the vocabulary. For me thinking
of stories and questions for the stories was easiest part of this. Numbers and fingerspelling wasnt so hard to
figure out. I looked at what the curriculum has since I do have the newest Signing Naturally Unit 1-6 book in
my hand now and tried to choose vocabulary the students would have been exposed to or the ideas within those
phrases so that they are being tested on something they have practiced with in class. I wanted to warm up with
multiple choice so the students arent freaking out about having to write down their answers which theyll have
to do later in the test. I was also clueless about ideas for activity at end of the exam and eventually decided to
analyze conversation structure - I would sign a phrase or question. Student choose the best possible response
signed on video (out of 4 options, which one makes most sense for response). Developing the test, I also
wanted to make sure it seemed balanced in a sense, and not overwhelming, which is why I spread out the
multiple choice so the students can breathe and relax in between. I opened with multiple choice so the students
wouldnt start with a blank mind (before doing the write their answers on line ones). Then for vocabulary, I
figured out that the best way to check their understanding is give them options and allow them to find one sign
that matches one of the options for that one. I found the stories easiest to do and creating questions for them.
With more practice, the stories seem to be easiest for me to create out of the whole test. With closure, I wanted
something challenging as the students are already warmed up by end of test and most of the stuff would be
something they are familiar with or have covered in conversation practices in class. Looking at it now, I feel
the test isnt so easy but its not impossible for the students to get a good grade on this if they think a little bit.
11/11 Reflection
I edited some of them but I am puzzled on how to rephrase or change the questions to statements to
analyze students receptive skills for part 4, eliminating numbers, vocabulary, and fingerspelling in this.
Other than that, I took into all the other changes that were needed to be made. I didnt want it
completely multiple choice because I thought that would be too easy for the student even though it
would make it completely easier for me to grade. I had started the process of editing it earlier last week
but never went back to finish the edits until now. It also didnt help that I was taking a final look at it
when I was exhausted tonite, I actually dozed off in the middle of working on final revisions at an earlier
time than I typically fall asleep at.
