CBSE Class XII 2017 Board Examination: Maths Question Paper Design

CBSE has released a notification detailing out the Question Paper Design for Mathematics for
the 2017 Board Examinations. Please read the detailed notification in the following
document.CBSE Circular for Maths Question Paper Design.
The Question Paper Design would be as follows:

A new section with 2 marks questions (8 questions) is being added. With regard to the HOTS
(High Order Thinking Skills) questions, they will now have, 3 questions in the 2 Marks section
and 1 question in the 4 Marks Section. Maybe some relief for all the aspirants! There will be no
overall choice, however the Internal choice in 4 Marks and 6 Marks questions would
continue.CBSE has also released a Sample Question paper, based on this design, which can be
accessed from Sample Question Paper.
Class XII Maths Board Exam Dreaming of a Centum!
Please Do! That is what a serious Maths student should do, which I believe each one of you
are.
CBSE Class 12 students and teachers fret over lengthy and challenging Maths paper Year
2015

CBSE Class XII Maths exam leaves many frustrated Year 2013
I am not sure if the current Class XII students or parents remember of seeing such big News
Paper Headlines during the previous Board Exams. 2014 paper was a shade easier than the 2013
and 2015 papers. So extending this logic can 2016 paper be easier? Well do not leave it for a
chance. Well, if you have not seen such headlines, I would say Please DO NOT WORRY.
A sound and complete preparation would put each of you in good stead for any type of paper.
A sound and complete preparation includes completing every problem from NCERT text book
(including examples and miscellaneous exercises!!), completing Exemplar Maths book,
completing one of the following two books, either R.D. Sharma or R.S. Aggarwal. Well you can
skip the problems from these books which you have already completed from the NCERT books.
Then understand the question paper design properly.
Class XII: 2015-16 Mathematics Paper Design
Based on the inputs given by CBSE through their sample papers, the question paper design
pattern would be the same as the 2014-15 session.
Total of 29 Questions (100 Marks)
Section A 6 Questions of 1 Mark Each
Section B 13 Questions of 4 Marks Each
Section C 7 Questions of 6 Marks Each

One can look at the model answer sheets that CBSE provides on its website every year. The 2015
paper can be accessed from the following link.
http://www.cbse.nic.in/curric~1/modal2015/041_1215.pdf
Also, please do spend some time in understanding the marking scheme for each question. As
most of you are preparing for some Engineering entrance exam or the other, you may have learnt
a number of quicker ways of doing a given problem. That is good for a Multiple Choice
Questions based examination and where speed is of the essence. In the CBSE board examination,
the detailed working of the solution with all the necessary mandatory steps is expected.
Sometimes, the right answer at the end of a 6 marks problem would only be half or 1 mark. The
steps carry 5 marks. So for some time, until the Maths Board exam is over, try to practice solving
problems at home by writing all the steps in order.
Time Management is the key. You would have 15 minutes time for reading the question paper
before the exam starts (10:15 am to 10:30 am). This time is given for you to look at the questions
and find out the flow in which you want to attempt the question paper, rather than worrying
about how difficult the paper is. On the face of it the paper may look difficult, but trust me, if
you get into a good rhythm of solving easier questions first and gaining confidence as you
progress, the paper suddenly appears to be easier.
Most of you might have been told by your teachers on the rules of answering the questions in the
board exams. Answer questions 1 to 29 in sequence. However, when you look at the model
answer papers provided by CBSE, you will notice that you can answer the paper either Sections
A, B, C order or Sections C, B, A order. However with in the section, the sequence of questions
should be in order. Most of the students that I know of, who score above 90% follow the C, B, A
sequence. For doing this, they practiced in the same way at home a number of times. While
doing this they also mastered the timing for each section.

Ideal being Section C 70 Minutes, Section B 70 Minutes, Section A 10 to 15 Minutes. This

gives 30 minutes at the end to go over the entire paper once and finding out if there are any
errors committed and correct them. At home, when you are doing mock tests (even tough ones),
try to solve the paper in 2 hours 15 Min. That gives you 45 minutes at the end, for reviewing the
paper.
While all of you have figured out and obtained various mock tests for yourself by now, I wanted
to draw your attention to one specific website, where you would find a real treasure of mock
tests.
