ENGLISH/LANGUAGE ARTS CURRICULUM MAPPING MEETING

OCTOBER 24:
Overview of ELA curriculum mapping process
1. Meet monthly with the addition of a release day in January
2. Summer mapping dates: July 31, August 1-2-3-4 (Friday
included) will be a two year process
ELA curriculum resources
1. ELA Standards binder August 2012
2. www.k12ela.weebly.com
Share strengths and weaknesses of current ELA
curriculum/resources
Share your VISION of what the perfect ELA classroom would be like
(curriculum, resources, technology, etc.)
All resources to be purchased in this curriculum mapping cycle
1. Elementary Journeys will be ordered. Will look into the LLI
classroom leveled readers
2. Middle School/High School need to determine your resource
needs
Assign: chart out units for each class that you teach: K-5, 6-8 and
HS
1. OEU 1 List modules and focus point with resources used
(repeat with OEU 2, 3 and 4)
November 28:
Share out units currently taught (K-5, 6-8 and 9-12)
Assign: send reading and writing strategies to Lisa W. to be
included in the weebly
December 12:
Common Core standards go through website and highlight:
1. How to read the standards
2. Reading: Literature
3. Reading: Informational Text
4. Reading: Foundational Skills
5. Writing
6. Speaking & Listening
7. Language
8. Standard 10
Curriculum Companion go through website and highlight:
1. OEUs overarching enduring understanding

2. Modules
3. Resources
4. FOLDER year long curriculum map, vertical charts, color
coded standards chart and inquiry module planning
worksheet
December/January - would like each grade level to take a release day to
dig deep into the Common Core Standards, Curriculum Companion and
currently used resources to identify next steps. I will meet with each
grade level to discuss resource needs.
January 23:
Jigsaw the Common Core Standards each grade level to share out
on a standard strand (literature, informational text, foundational
skills, writing, speaking & listening, language and Standard 10)
Assign: go through the inquiry module planning worksheet and
determine the standards to be addressed within each OEU and
module for your grade level
February 20:
Jigsaw the Curriculum Companion each grade level to share out on
the OEUs for their specific grade level and the modules that are
included under each OEU.
Assign: collaborate in your grade level to update charts of units
taught and changes to be made within each OEU and module
March 27:
Share out in grade level bands the OEUs/Modules chart - grades
EC-4K, 5K-1, 2-3, 4-5, 6-8 and 9=-12
Assign: continue to collaborate in your grade level to update charts
of units taught and changes to be made within each OEU and
module
APRIL 24:
Review online resources for ELA provided by Laurie
Discuss resource needs
MAY 15:
Discuss textbook/resources/technology needs
