Preparing for My Weekly Schedule in College
The transition into college is stressful enough with the financial part, but when you add in
the fact that now you have to adjust your whole schedule to fit the need of school, working, a
social life, sleep, and everything else between it the stress could overwhelm anyone. That is why
coming up with a time management plan is such a great idea. Its important to be responsible and
figure out the best way for you to utilize your time.

visual of how my how I use my current time. There are 168 hours in a week; therefore, I have
added up how much hours in a week I spend doing each individual activity throughout the week.
These are all estimations though, because its never known how the week is going to play out; for

example, one week I might have an appointment to go to, get called into work early, or have
more homework, the possibilities are endless.

College Schedule at Chandler-Gilbert Community College

Picking out the right college schedule for yourself is a huge deal, because you dont want
to realize 8 weeks into school that you hate that class and want to switch out. The best way to
pick your classes is by looking at fields you maybe be interested in majoring or that can help you
decide what you want to do for a living. Below is a chart that represents an outline of the classes
I wish to take next year at CGCC; although, the days and times of classes in the schedule might
change next year when I go to college, because they based off of CGCCs Fall of 2016 classes. I
still have to take a regular English class to get my prerequisite done, but because Im interested
in possibly being a Forensic Anthropologist, I chose to take an anatomy class instead of a regular
biology class. Since I am taking Pre-Calc right now I can use that extra class to take sign
language and get my language class out of the way instead. There is a section of classes under
Anthropology at CGCC, and one of the classes that stood out to me was Magic, Witchcraft, and
Healing: Intro. To Comparative Religion because Im fascinated by all the different tribes and
cultures around the world and think it could be a class that could help me decide if I want to
major in anthropology or not.

Post-Secondary Time Usage

As mentioned before, there are 168 hours in a week, and when going off to college a
person must adjust their daily/weekly schedule to fit the demand of college. The great thing
about college is there are many different times available for most classes, so you can choose
which days to go to school and plan the rest of your week according to them. Based on the
classes I chose in the paragraph before, the pie chart below shows the new estimation of number
of hours Id spend on each activity throughout the week. I dont know yet if this will be exactly
how many hours Ill spend on each activity because of several reasons; for instance, the times for
how long my class will be depends on if the class times stay the same on the updated CGCC
class schedule for when I enroll in college, and I wont know until I start college how much time
Ill actually need for homework. As always the schedule will probably slightly change every
week, since you cant control the amount of homework you get assigned, or unexpected things
that pop up.

Reflection
When the Current Time Usage and Post-Secondary Time Usage charts are compared
there are a few major differences and a few things that stay relatively the same. The biggest
changes are the number of social hours available and how many hours Ill be working. The
biggest cause for that will be because of moving out there wont be restrictions for when I can
and cant go out, but moving out comes with having a lot more expenses that will fall on me to
cover. There was about a 7 hour decrease in number of hours Ill be in class, but the 6 hour
increase on amount of hours needed to spend on homework balanced it out. I assume that I might

not have as many assignments due every day, but that Ill be given essays/papers/projects that
will be due every week. With that said, the best way to get them done on time without stressing
out would be to do a little bit each day or get it done before the due date so then there wont be a
need to stress out hours before the assignments due. In honesty the two things that worry me the
most is trying to manage my finances and getting the homework done, that is why I tripled the
amount of hours Ill be working and bumped up the number of hours put aside for homework. I
am surprised by the fact that I have way more time for social activities, but Im guessing my
estimations arent exactly correct and in reality Ill have around 30 hours a week for socializing.
