Mux Connector
Maintenance and Refill procedure
for Ruff Neck connector fitted to
Ocean-Rigs New Units
Corcovado, Olympia, Poseidon,
Mykonos BOP

The adaptor carries two o-rings, an Outer o-ring P/N 5-105 & Inner
o-ring P/N S-202. These o-rings should be replaced each time the
adaptor is used for a refill procedure.
The Ruff Neck connector is made up into two sections a top section
and a lower or bottom section. Both sections are sealed from each
other.
Ideally the connector should be positioned vertical.
Fill the portable hand pump with the refill fluid only. A dedicated
pump should be used to refill the connector only.
Prime pump and attached hoses to remove air pockets from the hose
and pump. Collect all free fluid into a clean container for reuse if
necessary.

Once all connections are secure begin pumping with slow and

fluid flow and look for any bubbles. If there is bubbles then apply a
few more strokes then use a rubber mallet and tap the cylinder of
the connector to releases any trapped air pockets. Leave to set for a
few minutes.

Install cap screws and ensure that the o-ring is not showing beyond the head of the
cap.

Remove the refill cap screw and the vent screw, keep screws
separate.

Install adaptor into the refill port of the top section and tighten with
hand to a firm tight. Connect hose to adaptor and tighten with a
wrench to a firm tight. Over tightening of the hose and adaptor can
break the fitting.

Once all connections are secure begin pumping with slow and

Continue filling the connector until fluid is flowing from the vent port of the
connector.
Tap the connector housing using a rubber mallet to dislodge any trapped
air particles. Look for sign of air bubbles in the fluid coming out of the vent
port. Very little or no air bubbles in the fluid is preferred.

Clean the refill port using a Q-tip to remove any residual fluid.

Replace the O-rings on the refill port cap screw and install into
position.

Faulty Connector
After several mating and de-mating of the connector the seals will begin to
deteriorate. The attached picture is an example of deteriorated seals.
