This website spoke of why domestic violence is a problem, especially for women. It
contained statistics such as how its the number one reason women get injured. It also
has some information on how the abusers do what they do and their personalities. This
will help in the report because it does talk about a various amount of topics i want to hit
within the larger topic of domestic violence. It also has an interesting idea of what kind
of personality traits the abusers have, aka a Jekyll/Hyde split.
Edleson, J. L. (1999). Children's witnessing of adult domestic violence.Journal of interpersonal
Violence, 14(8), 839-870.
This report gives incredible information on the effects domestic violence has on children
that witness it. It has how it affects their development and talks about how they
sometimes use the aggression theyve seen being used against one of the parents on other
people. This information will be used to show just how children growing up in a violent
household actually differ from the latter. The types of issues constantly seen in children
that have been present to the violence or just hearing it will further support my report.
Effects of Domestic Violence on Children. (2008). Retrieved October 21, 2016, from

This website furthers the facts of growing up in a violent household will lead to certain
behaviors by the children later on in their life. It also has a part where it talks about how
witnessing domestic violence can cause PTSD and juvenile delinquency. This will help
aid in the areas of my report that speak of long-term after effects that are caused by being

in the presence of domestic violence. PTSD is a growing mental illness and can be
reduced by the use of preventing domestic violence.
Goldsmith, T. D. (2016, May 17). What Causes Domestic Violence ? | Psych Central. Retrieved

This article/website gives details of why domestic violence may occur, though this does
not give justification to the act. It goes into talking about how in some instances, it is due
to religious beliefs that women are to be treated cruelly and how in others, they grew up
witnessing domestic violence. This will help in the sense of a main point I want to hit in
my report which is the repetitive cycle of this violence. Growing up as a male while
witnessing it may lead them to believing that kind of behavior is tolerable while growing
up as a female will lead to themselves being abused.

Anxiety.

The main focus of this video was how different children are affected in how they
encountered domestic violence. It speaks of what kind of behavior that can arise from
this violence and what kind of differences these children may face after the fact such as
depression due to a relocation. This can certainly help in the Community Problem Report
by giving a different perspective such as the example just given. The first thing that
occurred to me when thinking about domestic violence as a topic was not how children
are removed from their homes and separated from their parents for safety.

This film consists of a girl that leaves her mother to run away with a guy that s not good
news. As the movie progresses, their relationship begins to deteriorate and becomes
violent. Although the girl comes out of this relationship strong and alive, it affects her
emotionally tremendously. This movie will provide to the community problem report the
effects of domestic violence during the relationship as well as a different output from
what the victim encountered. Domestic violence is most commonly viewed with a
negative ending but can also end in a strong, positive way and this movie helps depict
that.
Smith, M., & Powell, P. (1989). Domestic violence: an overview. Home Office Planning and
Research Unit (HMSO, London).
This report contains information on what domestic violence/intimate partner violence is.
It has the variations of abuse from physical to economic abuse and the long term after
effects that follow. It also contains statistics for the purpose of emphasizing the amount
of abuse that happens in each category of abuse. This may very much help by defining
domestic violence to the point and giving examples of the types of abuse that can occur.
It also contains a broader view of after effects of this type of abuse such as the increased
risk for having a stroke or having heart disease.

From how to prevent abuse to how to cope with abuse and even a spectrum that will of
use to show what a healthy relationship consists of.
