I AM AGAINST EUTHANASIA
Euthanasia is the act or practice of causing or permitting the death of hopelessly
sick or injured individuals (such as persons or domestic animals) in a relatively painless
way for reasons of mercycalled also mercy killing.1
As early as 1640s the term Euthanasia has been in use. Euthanasia in origin is a Greek
word that means "a gentle and easy death," or "an easy or happy death," (eu- "good" +
thanatos "death").2
Euthanasia has been a subject of debate as well as controversy for such a long time in
the Philippines. The countrys opinion on this matter is divided, some approve of it and
others dont.
Well, as for my stand, I will reiterate that I am against it, for various personal
reasons.
THOU SHALL NOT KILL.
First, I am a catholic. It is against the teaching of the Catholic Church to kill. Life
is a valuable gift from God and nobody is allowed to take it by any means. The Church
affirms the right to life of all persons, from conception to natural death. The Church
encourages those with terminal illness to unite their sufferings with those of Jesus
Christ, for the sake of His body, the Church The Church also encourages caregivers and
family members to treat sick or handicapped persons with special respect.
