Significance
Thisstudyoffactorsthatinfluenceoftheutilisationofmaternity
servicesandbreastfeedingpracticesissignificantforthe
followingreasons:

Firstly,theresearchwillprovideupdatedknowledgeabout
childbirthandbreastfeedingpracticesinruralareasofVietnam,
includingunderstandingabouttheinfluenceofsocial,cultural,
psychologicalandeconomicfactorsonmaternalandchildhealth
p
practiceinVietnam.

Secondlytheresearchwillexploretheroleof
husbands/menandcloserelativesinchildbirthandbreastfeeding,
becausemoststudiesonmaternalandchildhealthhave
concentratedonwomenasthesoletargetgroup.Theresearch
thereforebringsoutamorecomprehensiveviewonchildbirth
andbreastfeedingtakingintoconsiderationgendersensitivity.

Thirdly,studiesonperceptionstowardsqualityofmaternity
servicesandwillingnesstopaytoalternativeservicesarevery
rareinpublishedliterature,especiallyinthedevelopingcountry
context.Inthisstudyquantitativeexaminationofwillingnessto
payandlayperceptionsofqualityofcarewillbeusedforthefirst
timeinVietnaminstudiesofmaternalcare.
