Lesson plan #7 Basic Conversation

Lesson Overview: We will be having a basic conversation exchanging names,

nice to meet you, how are you, where are you from and goodbye from memory in
front of the class.
Resources or Materials Needed
LCD projector and document camera. Students will need paper and writing utensil.
Students will also be given packets containing the conversation outlines for the
chapter, workbook pages, and passports that are signed off by the teacher as
each conversation is presented.
Performance Objective: Students will present a basic conversation from memory,
pronouncing all words correctly.
Time: 60 minutes
Step 1: Pre-Instructional Activities: Students will review as a class the entire
Spanish alphabet along with the American Sign Language signs for each letter.
Teacher will then have students copy the vocabulary for todays conversation off of
the overhead.
Step 2: Content Presentation: Teacher will model the pronunciation of the phrases,
reminding students of the alphabet sounds. Students will repeat. We will then
script the first conversation together.
Step 3: Learner Participation: Students will rehearse the conversation with
partners. They will rehearse both parts, because in real life we dont get to choose
which side of a conversation we are on. They will be given about fifteen minutes to
rehearse and then pairs will present in front of the class.
Step 4: Assessment: This is a classwork/participation grade as well as an informal
assessment. As each pair presents in front of the class the teacher will sign off on
the passport which goes in the gradebook at the end of the unit.
Step 5: Follow-Through Activities: This vocabulary will serve as the foundation
for most things that will be taught this year. We simply keep adding to it. Learning
a language is very sequential and requires a good foundation. So the next
conversation will have similar components as well as new material.
